Who is on call/on standby?

I don't have enough experience for call out here yet, but it's usually a week on call, which will likely be 1 week in 4 when I start, call out for fire, flood, and high voltage supplies.

In my previous job I used to be oncall mostly for the retailer Next at the weekends for P.O.S hardware support. I had to cover upto Sheffield and as far down as Leicester and sometimes right over to Ipswich.

Having to drive 60 miles to go and plug in a ac adapter was easy money.

Sometimes I was called out to goto Capgemini up in the Sheffield steel works at 2am which was a bind.

I am on call as a network engineer for our customers that have WAN connections, site-to-site VPN and other private networks and firewalls.

Me. I do 1 in 3 weeks
Its usually quiet in the week but saturday/sunday is busy. IMO its about right for the money as we cant go away for weekends etc (however i'm being made redundant after next week so no more money/job for me :()

Bloody phone has been to my ear since 7 this morning :(:(:(

Im putting in a few hours on the overtime for this on top of my normal on call pay fo show

I'm on call 1 week in 3 at the moment. Rarely get called so it's essentially free money.
Can access my laptop from my phone so my only restrictions on where I can go is making sure I have 3G connection :)

Yeah I'm on call!

24/7/365 - HM Coastguard Search & Rescue Officer (999 calls)
24/7, 1 week on 1 week off - South West Ambulance Service Responder. Again 999 calls, this time for medical call outs. We have a well stocked long-wheel base land rover for our kit, complete with blue lights.

No,I do the calling out!

I hate waking people up at 3am but occasionally unavoidable.I work shifts at a WTW,occasionally have to get the cavalry in as we work single man afternoons and night shifts. The experts say shift work can make people moody and difficult to live with, its never had that affect on me though.

Anyway! whats it to you? you facking cant!:p

I'm on a design team. We design and build it and then chuck it over the fence to BAU who get to have the joy of getting called at some ungodly hour to deal with the ****.

Wouldn't do oncall for all the tea in china.

Nope, but got a sneaky feeling the boss will be putting me on call very shortly.

Meaning weekends of no drinking! Hmmm of course not..... :p
