cpu cooler for AMD phenom II 965?

Hi all

looking to replace my amd phenom 965 stock cooler with a better more quieter one. any suggestions? must be quietish and be below 40 pound. will not be overclocking

also is there any guides that show how to take the old cpu cooler off? ive never done it before, the stock cooler looks like this

To remove the old cooler just lift up the latch and remove the old cooler, you may need to but some cleaner to clean the old paste off.

This is the retention mechanism, I think you may need to keep this in place, but this will depend on the cooler used, the instruction manual will tell you what to-do.

Compared to the good ol' days stock AMD coolers are now an absolute doddle to remove, and install. No screw drivers needed now...

It's a good budget cooler. It's very quiet. Sadly it's cheap and from the moment it arrives you'll know it. It's also a bit of a pain to attach.

Ignore the printed instructions and attach the clips to the whole heatsink assembly, but don't turn the screws much at all. Then clip one of the clips on, and then the second, and then screw the screws in tight. That way is much easier than the instructions.

i use the cooler in my sig keeps my phenom 2 x4 955be nice n cool @ 3.8ghz...

cant say anything about noise as i have case fans on full to

but im fairly certain if your not overclocking freezer 7 pro rev 2 would be good enough wouldnt it?

erm, it is unlocked and overclocked... I've just not gone daft with it.

it was a phenomII x2 550be @ 3.1 . I'm quite happy with it being a budget 965

It's a good budget cooler. It's very quiet...

+1 from me. I used to have one of these but replaced it when I upgraded to 8Gb of RAM. The Fan sticks out quite a bit and was blocking two of the RAM slots on my mobo.

almost £7 less than the ac7 and a better cooler. my temps dropped around 7c when i changed from the ac7 to one of these when i had my unlocked 550BE

am i right in that installation is just removing the old heatsink and replacing it with this one? using the amd clip, doesnt seem to be need to access back of the motherboard?

I'm using a Coolermaster hyper 212 plus with my phenom 965. I'm running it stable at 4 ghz at stock voltage, and it reaches a maximum of 45 degrees Celsius under load!
