Dead Space 2 .

Although it is a great game so far im not finding it as scary as some older games such as Doom 3 etc. Maybe its because ive played the 1st one a lot and i now know mostly what to expect... For example ill walk into a corridor and there will be a random corpse lying there, "bet thats gonna come to life as soon as i get near it, better aim my gun just incase. Yep just as i thought. *blam*

Still an awesome game though :)

Its predictable but its the sound design and ques that make it work so well. It even has monster closets like doom 3.

There are 15 chapters. However chapter 15 is just the final boss fight.

Took me about 9hr's to finish the game, which I found quite surprising really, as DS one was pretty much 1hr per chapter, so to find that this game is shorter was a bit whaaa?

Still, it was excellent. Can't decide what to do now, do I do a quick New Game+ Normal to mop up the achievements for weapons, or do I go straight for the Zealot one... hmmmm....

Also... final boss was an absolute DF@/!!£$ for me, as by the time I'd reached it all I had left was a single can of Flame Thrower fuel... (only used plasma cutter for 90% of the game)...

Which when you see the final boss you will see how utterly useless having a flame thrower is... so had to spend 5mins of the boss fight running around killing random things just to get the ammo to kill the actual boss! Which caused my death several times. :D

Finished the game with maxed out RIG, Stasis, Plasma Cutter (original of course), and Flame Thrower. Didn't touch any of the other weapons, and 30/50 achievements, 545G. Not bad for first run through.

I think I'd still say the first is the better game, but only just. The second certainly does iron out a lot of the niggles that affected gameplay of the first (e.g. stasis recharges in DS2, and there are no air cans for a start).

But I think the first game had better story pacing, and better boss battles.

While the second didn't really have boss battles, but had some great action set pieces.

So overall, both great games.

Took me 6hrs 49 mins to finish Dead Space on normal, but I only did normal to get through it quick. I didn't rush though and explored as much as I could for logs. So for me DS2 was longer and has more replay value.

Story in the first is definitely worse than the story in this.

I'm going to get DS1 before I carry on with DS2.

I had to turn it off last night after about 20 minutes, as it was creeping me out too much. :o

or furry cats? :p

Will it impact massively if I play the second one first, then the first one?

I can't for the life of me find a copy of the first game.

Well the 2nd one has a 'Previously on Dead Space' button that gives you a quick overview of what happened in the first.

So you won't be too far out of the loop. Though to appreciate one of the later chapters (and indeed the ending) fully you should really play the first game... well... first. :D

You can probably pick it up 2nd hand for less than a tenner.

EDIT - CEX sell it for £12 2nd hand.

just got to the chapter where you go back into you know where (dont want to spoil it) and it was very creepy and the audio logs were brilliant

Me too. I was REALLY cacking it. I had to take a break, nearly had a heart attack. :D

Just started last night. Only 10 mins in but so far so good! Can't wait to be immersed again.

I'm not a horror fan (the genre rarely scares me) but I know a well crafted game when I play it. Dead Space 1 was masterfully crafted and I can't wait to complete number 2.
