"Intel was very clear that there are no flaws in the Sandy Bridge chip designs themselves and that no other processors are affected by the Cougar Point flaw. The company has already implemented a fix in the Cougar Point chipset and has begun baking new versions of the chipset, which it expects to start shipping to OEM customers in late February. Intel is not expected to get to full volume productions of the modified Cougar Point chipset until April."

So basically nobody in their right mind who wants sub-standard goods should be buying a 1155 chipset motherboard until APRIL...that's 3 months away!!

This is going to hit retailers and sales in both Sandy Bridge CPU's and 1155 Mobo's hard surely.

It's already put me off buying a new system this week - I'll leave it until April now.

I'm hoping that Intel will lower their prices when the new boards are released to get customers buying again as customeers need to have faith in the products they are selling.

I hope a list of unaffect/affected chipsets come out soon. But I fear the worst its going to be all of them.

Do you think we could send back the CPU also and maybe go AMD because what use is a CPU in a defective motherboard ?

All H67/P67 motherboards will be affected.

That doesnt make sense?

Its only the mainboard and depending on Manufacture they will either swap or RMA replacement. So your CPU is still good.

I wonder if were talking degredation over weeks, months or years. Theres no inclanation how quick it drops, so it could be a small issue or a big one.

What do we do while we have no pc? they should send out motherboards first.

The current motherboards will probably be fine until April, Intel seem to think it's a long term wear and tear issue.

That would be the ideal situation. I recon most will deal with retailers.

Presumably it could be a couple of months before the new/revised 'boards are properly available?

Thats my view on it. They probably did some testing and have seen a VERY small drop.

I dont think people should be worried at all. It will get sorted. What I would like to know is. How big is the drop over say a month, does it currupt data?

Until I hear time scales on degrading, etc I'm not too bothered. Most of us overclock cpus inevitably causing degrading so if it's comparative to that it's a non-issue. The only thing that will be an issue is bad press and re-sale value.

If Intel are doing a recall then it's a serious problem. $300 million down the drain is not a decision you take lightly for an issue that may or may not be present. Most people will value PC stability, so knowing that your drive might suddenly stop working at some random point in time in the near future is a big no-no. Especially for businesses!

This is why I skip a hardware generation. Sorry to everyone who just shelled out for Sandy kit. Hope you get it sorted with minimum fuss!
