Achievements and Trophies…

They are great, free, add to longevity, part of gaming now, games do still have high scores and leaders, worldwide/friends.

I dont care about the gamer score, but having it tell me that i've got 70% of the available stuff is nice.

I just wish i could remove games from my Trophy list. EG Fifa 09 which i barely played and got 3% in and will never ever play again.

The all add up and count. ;)

I like doing specific things that I wouldn't normally bother with or have thought of. e.g. in Dead Space 2, kill an enemy with a specific gun in a specific way. It just adds something else to the gameplay. It's silly when they are awarded for things like completing a level because you're going to complete the level anyway. So it's hardly an achievement. I do prefer getting a gold or silver trophy to a bunch of points though. :p Still the platinum remains elusive to me.

I think they add to a games lifespan.

Before achievements I'd play through a games main story, and then I'd move on.

With achievements it gives me incentive to replay it again and try and do some things a bit differently, or in ways I'd never usually bother to do.

I don't really give a crap about my gamerscore, it's the sense of 'achievement'.

I agree with all of that apart from the last line, I do like showing off my gamerscore :)

Adds longevity to games, provides a challenge and I know i've got my moneys worth when the whole game has been completed to a 100%.

Agree here.

Personally I don't pay much attention to Trophies I just think the whole XBL environment works better. But for both platforms these little extras all add to our enjoyment but at the same time we can take them or leave them if we want to.

Noticed you have platinumed Up, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, Wanted: Weapons of Fate and Terminator Salvation ;)

Whore!

Hmm heard about gamers grabbing games on rental or what not that are reportedly easy to platinum or got 100% etc on to increase gamer scores etc…

Find it a bit sad truth told, but then I’ve not got a single platinum trophy to my name – as I tend to play games I’m only interested in, and not grab a game as it has an easy to obtain trophy list… Maybe that’s what I’m doing wrong lol

Upon saying this, Mass Effect 2 awards trophies for just completing missions, or obtaining new team members – which is just part of the game anyhow… If it continues like this, I’ll have got over 50% of the awards for ‘just playing the game till the end’ so that’s erm – well easy enough lol

I haven’t actually got anything near 100% in any game I’ve played on my PS3. 49% on F1 2010 is my highest, I think Batman Arkham I got 47% and then followed by GT5 at something like 41%.....

Maybe I’m just rubbish at games, but I’ve enjoyed those three titles a lot but took no notice of the trophy awards… In GT5 I got a trophy for making my own playlist of music from my PS3 HD music contents and using this as the driving BGM.. I did that as I wanted my own custom soundtrack ingame, and got a reward for doing so.. lol

I honestly think people who actually care about them are quite sad really - if a game itself is good enough then that should be more than enough incentive to complete it.

Its an arbitary system that really has zero relevance on the quality of the game - is a game someones 100% trophied/achieved a testiment to something I really need to buy or just indicative of a game thats easily 'completed' and bears no relevance on the experience itself...

Theyve very much lost any value they were originally envisaged with, but the idea itself IMO was never well fleshed out in the first place - not having feedback back into the game seems an opportunity missed.

P.S. Im not that competitive so perhaps these systems are just wasted on me...

ps3ud0

Hah well done that's some achievement. I guess it just requires a LOT of patience. Did you ever get to the end of the level and end up blowing the C4 up accidentally in the last breaching room? :(

Nah i did a speed run where i basically flashbanged an area and ran through the enemies as they were blinded :D At the end as i went to breach it just blew the door and said something about there being too many enemies, so there were no terrorists inside. Mission Accomplished! Took just over 2minutes

I have 14 platniums but have never brought & completed a game that I didn't want/enjoy. I even borrowed teminator from a friend and only have 27% of the trophy's as the game is ****.

The main issue I have is that developers can produce a crap game and sell it by including easy achievements.

I do enjoy when the platnium pops up, especially when the game is hard i.e. demons souls :D

Im the same, ill platinum a game if i like it and can be bothered. You just have to look at my list of games played (about 50) and 75% of them have got some trophies but im not gonna go back and replay them over and over to get them.

I flat out refuse to buy/rent a game just for easy trophies, such a waste of time and effort for what is essentially willy waving to nobody.

Though in saying that if the trophies in a game are very difficult or take lots of work, ill stick at it as then i feel like i achieved something for some reason. E.g GT5 will take a ridiculous amount of time to get a platinum, but i love the game and its a challenge so ill give it a damn good go :)

I'm the worse I'll buy games I don't like for trophies if the games cheap enough. Mind I'm with Lovefilm now so I can just rent crap games for trophies now instead of buying them.

Why is it sad to do something you enjoy? The xbox guy is aiming to get 1 million gamerscore btw.

I wouldn't take it to that level but enjoy achievements. I play some games more than I would if there werent achievements - for example playing the harder difficulties etc. I also play games that you dont get achievements for ie BLOPs multiplayer etc... its just horses for courses really.
