Stupid Cyclist

I'm not sure in what world you think it's logical to keep moving into a path of a much larger object which could almost certainly hurt you.
Yes, the van overtook, this happens in life, deal with it.

But there's no reason to be a snob, ignore the van's indicator lights and just out of spite to be "right" stay along side the van when all you had to do in reality was stop being a **** and slow down.
I don't care what vehicle you drive or ride, you don't purposely put yourself in a position to almost have an accident to prove someone wrong. Idiots.

He was riding perfectly legitimately and within his rights. The van driver did not leave him space as he should have done. He would have done it with a motorcycle, so why not a bike? The van driver simply cut across him and he had nowhere to go. Don't know what video you were watching.

In that video the bike rider is taking up far too much of the road and if he'd spent more time using his brakes than shouting and banging on the side of the van the whole thing would not have happened. Had to laugh at him stopped at the lights too, like that would happen if he wasn't being filmed.

He's within his rights to use as much of the road as he wants. However much you dislike cyclists.

He's taking up far less of the road than the van is though, so surely the van should get out of his way? Size does not grant extra rights and privileges when it comes to road usage.

.

I'm sorry, the van overtook on the right and left plenty of space, he didn't even hit the cyclist in the first section. All he had to do was slow down.

Get it? Do I have to say it again? All the cyclist had to do was use the brake and slow down a tad and keep behind the overtaking vehicle.

Not enough space? If you want to ride NEXT to a vehicle, expect problems.

Nowhere to go? How about left? There was TONS of room. You're as blind as the cyclist.

No room, herp derpa derp.

I cycle everyday to and from work and I can't tell you the number of times daily I have cars literally trying to force me off the road behind me. Like, they literally drive 2 inches behind me or overtake next to me.

Stupid cyclists, maybe you should stop thinking of them as cyclists and start thinking if you hit them there's a good chance they'll die, they are human beings as well you know. How would you feel if I was driving a huge lorry 2 inches behind you with no intention whatsoever of being careful.

I'm a cyclist and I give way to cars most of the time. Its only a short route but there's a couple of traffic lights. I normally try to get to the front and move on amber so I don't get get caught with them next to me on the corners.

That article was on Breakfast this morning.

Whilst on the rare occasions I cycle on the road I have had drivers being tools (mostly I use my XC bike XC).... I was raging at that article as daily I see cyclists ignoring red-lights and either nearly hitting pedestrians at pedestrian crossings or trying to get themselves T-boned at light-controlled junctions.

Humans, in general, are ********.

/ thread.

Jesus that video. That bloke is just thick. White van men are more often than not total scum, sorry.

But why was the cyclist shouting 'stay left'? Surely he meant stay right?

No personal attacks. The van over took and DIDN'T leave any space and simply started cutting him up. Instead of rushing to where he wanted to be he should have simply waited to slow down and see if the cyclist was going to continue on, or move to the left. Which is good highway code practice and again, something people would do with a motorcyclist. The van driver didn't. He overtook approaching a corner he intended to take without taking into consideration the intended direction of the cyclist. That move would have caused a crash if it had of been a car, motorbike, caravan or donkey. His behaviour afterwards was equally appalling and he deserved everything the courts gave him.

cyclists are a bloody menace. most of them think a red light doesnt apply to them, and just because of all this eco friendly guff, they think they are superior.
And what a pencil neck he was.

I'm a moron? RTM and look at the picture above, proven wrong.

I can't believe how some people react to the treatment of others merely because of the type of transport they are on.

Some attitudes in this thread are unbelievable.

They are superior, maybe if more people cycled there wouldn't be so many wars over black gold.

Yes. You are a moron. You're arguing about a manoeuvre that the courts decided warranted punishment. And you can't even see how dangerous the van drivers manoeuvre was which leaves me hoping that on your way to work tomorrow you don't try to arrive somewhere two minutes quicker and perform the same ridiculous manoeuvre and end up killing someone under the wheels of your manly testosterone mobile.

I don't think I'm surperior, I cycle for fitness and because it's cheap and fun. It's nothing to do with being eco-friendly for me.

ChrisJSY you're not too smart, are you?

Couldn't agree more, the van driver was clearly in the wrong and he paid the penalty for it. I drive a car and ride a bike when I get chance, the cyclist in the video was in his right, no doubt about it. I'm sure some think that us cyclists should ride an inch from the curb and give way to anything with an engine strapped under the bonnet.

I don't make ridiculous maneuvers, I'm a very attentive and aware driver, my spatial skills are very good, I'm curtious to all road users and very often give way, I don't rush but I don't like useless people. I just find it very hard that in the given situation above you can't think of a way out, you can even replay the video and screenshot the area he can move to, yet even this eludes you.

Worst I will ever do is drop down a gear and audibly peeve off those cyclists that drive 2 aside without caring what's behind.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, the van driver had no need to overtake coming so close to a point he needed to slow down, but the fact is despite what he did you shouldn't keep your place JUST BECAUSE you can, he made his move now react, be a nob and drive next to it, or slow down. This cyclist decided, well I have this camera so I'm just going to cycle along side.

Life doesn't work like that, you react to outside events, he had plenty of opportunity to do something else.
If I was the cyclist, I'd have slowed down and not put myself in the position of him ever hitting me.

But that's what's different about me and other people, I don't put myself in those stupid positions to start with, yet some do.
