Stupid Cyclist

People do know that there are equivalent offences for cycling that exist for Dangerous Driving and also Careless Driving right ??

Cyclists rarely kill pedestrians. Drivers often kill both pedestrians and cyclists. Cycling makes you fitter and is far, far better for the environment. The world is a bigger place when you cycle everywhere, you can appreciate it more. Nowhere is out of cycling distance if you have the time. Two days from Newcastle to London, if you're fit, which you would be if you rode everywhere.

Go figure.

Isn't it called furious pedalling or something? Having to work with a few MAMILs I think they'd actually be proud if they got convicted of that ;)

As a cyclist I'd like to say : Do it. Elbow at face height would be more spectacular though.
Cyclists who jump red lights (particularly at pedestrian crossings) are ***** who deserve to be taken out.

I would probably get arrested :p

In all my travels around London there doesn't seem to be that many who slowly go through a red light. It is about 80% conformance with waiting at the red light or 20% RAWWWWR SPEEEEDDD POWERRRR.

Maybe I should cross roads with a ladder on my shoulder :D:D:D

What I propose, gentlemen, is that both parties displayed spectacular lack of common sense, but while Aggro Yob's decision to eject himself from the van in the middle of the road was indefensible, the Spandex Vloggin Ninja should actually sit down and deeply reflect on stupidity of his behaviour if he wants to continue unlocking Lance Armstrong streetracer achievements for the next 37 years for what he did, shouted and performed there, on his own video was ultimate, bottomless stupidity.

As has already been pointed out numerous times now, the courts ruled that the driver of the van was in the wrong, so speculating over it is a waste of time.

Secondly, he shouted.... what exactly do you expect cyclists to do in such a situation? ring a bell? I think you'll find that a cyclist shouting is no different to a car driver hitting their horn.

Did the man in the van punch him? Man in van should have gone to jail for that.

I can't find the thread now, but from what I remember back on Bike Radar in the summer, the guy who was involved in this said that he had to pickup his bike and use it to defend himself from getting hit.

Unfortunately none of that was on camera, which is why he couldn't be charged with assault.

by screaming "STAY LEFT! STAY LEFT effectively giving vocal permission for Aggro Yob to stay left/keep turning left

Are you looking at some other video clip?

Because I can hear the words STAY RIGHT, STAY RIGHT....

Or are you just quoting Robbie G who also seems to be looking at some other video clip when he also said that?

Driver got done for slamming/stopping to punch him, tho, didn't he?

The point is - he shouted wrong thing - he told the driver to stay left, driver did stay left, as asked.

Yeah, but how would you report a bike for something? they hold no identity tags like cars do. They know they can't be traced.

I am thinking of cycling the 15 miles to work every day to get fit and save cash, some bad roads on the way there.

Anyone know what the camera was or knows where to get them? wouldn't mind a few for the car either. Don't fancy spending hours on ebay looking for them.

I hear "stay left". BBC's online thingy is bad tho. Any youtube links?

Robbie is having a mare with his hearing and speech these days, definately 'stay right' on the video :D

I love these threads. Not everyone on a bike is a cyclist in my experience.

A few weeks ago a local guy/amazing triathlete(bud johnston) was run over and left in a terrible state and the driver just drove off as far as I know. In that case the driver was at fault.

I know of people who cycle up/down dual carriageways in the dark and I ask why they do it when there is a back road that is a lot quieter and safer(imo). Stupidity I guess.

Why should they give him a ticket if he has dismounted his bike?

He doesn't dismount though. He clearly says:

I slow down almost to a stop and if there's no pedestrians either on the crossing or coming up to it then I go through, and again only if it's a junction where I won't be cutting through traffic. I don't see the point in waiting when I could dismount, walk past the crossing and then start off again perfectly legally and there's minimal difference

Which indicates that he will cycle through the red light as, when he compares it to dismounting then walking through and starting off again, there is minimal difference [to just cycling through]. At least thats how I read it.... Maybe he can clarify if you need it.

"Dangerous Cycling" and "Careless and inconsiderate cycling" is the official charges :p

Probably a judge who does not drive as he is chauffer driven in his bentley to court.

And no doubt he gets spoon fed too, because Judges, doctors, the lot of thee 100K+ earners are incapable of doing things for themselves?

And so what if he doesn't drive. He wouldn't be judging that if he didn't know the highway code or without pre advise from lawyers etc? Plus, this would be the first ever driver-in-court case he has dealt with?

I am sure if a copper in a car happened to be in a position to pull a cyclist over after seeing an offence then they would. Cyclists need to obey the rules as well which includes following directions given by a police officer in uniform.

Once pulled over, ticket issued.

Yes they do, I was once pulled over at 1am cycling home on the pavement on a friday night when I was 15. Cop asked me to dismount, I did, went round the corner, got back on and carried on home. Roads at that time are very bad round here with the boy racers.

The problem is, if you see a cyclist hit a pedestrian/car or commit an offence and there isn't a cop around, you can't report him.

Very true, but short of tagging bikes in some manner having a registered keeper for each bike and falling under the realms of s.172 of the RTA 1988, this problem cannot be fixed....

I once did something similar to what the van driver did, because I underestimated how fast the cyclist was going (I think he sped up as I was passing him, so I wasn't fully past him when I started moving left again). I got a well deserved shouting at from behind, and I've not done it since. I certainly didn't get out of my car and start ranting at the cyclist, I raised my hand in apology and wore an appropriately embarrassed expression on my face.

Rant all you like about cyclists, but at the end of the day, you're surrounded by a comfy metal box and they aren't. Even if you have right of way, even if the cyclist is behaving like a complete moron, think about the consequences and how you'd feel if you collided with that cyclist and killed him. In fact, you should anticipate stupidity from all road users.
