any chance our collective skills could set up a brewery?

I'd be very happy to spend a few evenings helping out (if it is in London 'ish)

only problem is keeping me away from the product.

Large scale, no. As you need insanely expensive kit.

Micro style (i.e <25l per brew), sure. But collectively? Doubt it, more importantly, why? Just find a brew forum and exchange brews on there!

Could be a good way to make enough profit, to finally be able to afford that missile silo.

I didn't mean go commercial (immediatly). It takes 6-8 weeks to brew and would make a very good excuse for a booze up / meet. Just trying to be slightly sociable.

Thousands view these pages daily, if we managed to persuade one of the brewers with extra capacity to brew our own then that would be fun in itself. Shepherd neame are always asking their landlords to come up with a brew....and they tend to be rubbish.....but that's not the point....4-4-2

But ok, how much would it cost to set up a small brewery. Ignoring staff costs.

Do we need heat to do it? If so, why not just get all those folk with watercoolers to majorly overclock their CPU's, run the ingredients through the pipes and let the heat from their CPU's do the work.

now that is an interesting idea for a case mod......bagsy

If you're commercially selling alcohol then you will need to be declared and pay the customs and excise taxes. HMRC are very strict on this.

I wanted to make some proper Cider but I don't have access to a shed load of apples or a cider press although there's plenty of guides on making a home made version.

The costs for setting up a brewery are absolutely eye-watering.

But if it's a home brewery in someone's shed or something, and everyone pitches in, then it would actually work out fairly cheap :)
