Hi all basically i am looking into building a desk top to rival my laptop so i can swap between them

It will be mostly used for WoW and SC2

So far i have decided on

Krypton AMD Phenom II X6 1090T Black Edition 3.20GHz @ 4.00GHz Overclocked Bundle

8GB ram

Zalman Z9 Plus Tower Case with Fan Controller

ATI Radeon 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

RAID PACK - Western Digital RE2 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache

Pioneer 24x Internal S19LBK DVD Rewriter SATA

Zalman ZM1000-HP Plus Heatpipe Cooled 1000W Modular Power Supply (or simalarif i can get cheaper)

running on win7 64bit

Will this be a good set up for the games mentioned and with the set up would i be able to add andother graphics card if/when needed with out having to change the PSU?

Thanks in addvance for any help and replys

This should play both games excellently.

The case you mentioned seems good, but does not have any dust filters, so if you'd prefer a dust free system get this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-161-AN&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=160 instead. same price range, good quality and cooling.

Also for the price of that bundle I would get http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=BU-063-OE&groupid=43&catid=339&subcat=1802 as its much faster in gaming check this http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/146?vs=288
The PSU is overkill, but I can highly recommend it, got the previous model, which is the same just a bit lower efficiency. You could get away with a 850W unit as well for future crossfire.

Hi my laptop is a i5 and i wanted to try a set up that was not intel for a change

As for the case i love the look of it and dont think i will be changing my mind on that

The PSu does seem over kill i was looking at a PSU calculator and said i would need about 750 watts so i thouth by going for the 1kw i would be covering my back on any thing else to come

Just used that site to calculate the PSU i would need and it said 562 watts now that seems a bit low to me so i probs did some thing wrong :)

Well im going to go for a 850 watt PSU and these parts are mostly subject to change if better is on "This week only price" when im buying the even better and with me its a simple thing of buy coulpe bits 1 month the others at another time and so on till i have it all then build it and hook up to the 42" at home

Lets face it this set up is look at about £1000 ish from overclockers and well i dont have that kind of cash up front :(

yea but did you take a look at the site i showed you? the performance is more for the money. Your choice though, but for gaming and general usage the SB i5 will blow the X6.

as for the case, your choice not that important, just the antec will need less cleaning inside.

the zalman psu's are perfectly fine and even the 750W will cover you but if you want some extra peace of mind, go for the 850W unit.

Yeah i had a look at the site it just that i really want to take the move from intel wasnt to happy with my old lappy and with 3 PCs in the house all running off intel (1 is the Cataclysm Hellscream from OCuk) and the 4 lappys all by them as well just wanted some thing different for a change

As for the http://www.antec.outervision.com/ i think i have filled it out right (adding the the second GPC and crossfire) but i was a bit baffeled like i have said this will be my first coustom build (changed GPCs and replaced PSUs before but nothing to this scale)

Oh and this is my lap tops spec (new 1)

•Intel Core i5-460m 2.53GHz processor
•4GB (DDR3 1066MHz) RAM
•640GB SATA hard drive
•17.3in Gloss SuperBright LED Backlit LCD display
•Blu-ray player and DVD Multi
•Bluetooth 3.0
•802.11 b/g/n WiFi
•Windows 7 Home Premium
•Samsung R780 laptop
also have nvida GT 330m GPC in there

So the system im building is to blow that and the Cataclysm Hellscream (from OCuk) out the water

Might be but its not much more to get it so i thought what the hell

4GB seems to struggle at times so maybe go for 6 and meet in the middle?

u need dual channel memory for the sb i5 and the phenom builds so either 4 or 8gb in your case. Also your cpu is an i5 1st generation, the i5 I've linked you is SB i5. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/144?vs=288

notice that the i5 i used is at 3.2ghz and not an M so performance should be more than what you have inside your laptop. Now clock for clock the sb one is much faster, imagine your i5 versus the sb i5 overclocked.

Lol so basically i should stick to intel now i have to rebuild the whole system (and as long as i can buy the bunndle clocked im laughing dont have a clue on that score)

If i was to run the same system around this set up

Radon Allosaur" Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz @ 4.40GHz Overclocked Bundle

that would be better then?

yes, if u look inside the comparison link, it shows in various environments the performance of both an old i5(same technology as yours, only faster clock) and a new i5. Even the old i5 is better in gaming than the X6 Phenom, the new one is even better.

So yes, go with the new i5.

I could get away with a smaller PSU as well with that i think (CPU not on the list so went for highest spec i7)

So really i could get away with ony changing that OC bundle and stick to every thing else the same :)

Cool will get a 750 PSU (better to have to much than not enought)

Last question before im off home with the Corsair A50 CPU Cooler A, be up to the job and B, fit in the case?
