So i have had a Canon IXUS 95 IS for a year or two and am really fed up with it. The low light image quality is dire. Well i think it is. If someone with experience could take a look at this sample picture and let me know if it is 'bad' or am i just expecting too much from a point and shoot. There just seems to be so much noise and grain. This was taken with auto mode ISO 800
Will be changing to a Panasonic Lumix TZ8 me thinks.

You took a picture of used issue on your desk? Really? :p

My thoughts exactly, right next to an expensive looking watch ;)

But yeah, of course you're going to get that sort of noise at ISO 800. Turn it down, i'm not sure what settings you get control of with the 95 but at any rate don't expect miracles. It's a decent compact, but it's a compact. Which means good in daylight, hit and miss elsewhere.

Agreed, DSLR all the way. You'll very rarely if ever get a decent picture at that ISO setting on a compact. You can downsize the picture, that will help a little but it will never truly compensate for its shortcomings.
