I had to have an MRI scan on my shoulder this evening, I dislocated it 3 weeks ago. First time i have ever had to undergo one of these scans and it was nasty ! Im not that keen on tight spaces and its a tight fit in them scanners.

Good news is i didnt freak out, About 20 -25 mins had passed and i was ready to get the hell out of there so i pressed the buzzer to ask how much longer it was going to be and 10 seconds later it was all over, Phew..........if i ever need to have another im going to ask for a few valium first!

it's really not a nice experience if you are remotely claustrophobic. At work we have a mock scanner we use to get participants used to the idea of it before they go into the real one (it saves time and money if they don't like it at all as we have to buy the time we use)

Yeah, wasn't the most pleasant experience for me, either. Fortunately, one of my colleagues had been in one before and told me roughly what to expect. I'd have been a lot more comfortable with the whole thing if it wasn't for that cage-like thing they put over your head... :p

I've had a few of these in my time, I'm glad the scanners push air through them otherwise I'd probably be clicking the buzzer after a few mins but its not that bad. Worst time was I had to have a neck brace and went in head first, others were feet in first, I had to keep my neck still but naturally when someone says that you twitch like hell! :p

Happy Days.

Haven't had this yet thankfully but when I have nasty things done to me at the hospital I always imagine little kids having to be brave when ging through the same thing and it helps to give you some courage :D

My Dad had one and said it was bloomin' awful. The guy in the queue ahead of him 'chickened out' though.

I have often seen it at work but never been in one myself. It's the noise the thing makes in the back that gets to me. The Bang, bang, bang, bang... it's just not much fun.

On the other hand when one of the consultants shows me what some of the latest software can allow them to do I was VERY impressed. Not only could we browse through virutal slices of this dude but we could zoom in and then watch it animate. He showed me one of the ventricles and I could see the problem alright! Truly amazing stuff.

Obviously I never knew the patient or knew their name... just in case anyone starts crying out this is a breach of someones privacy!

Had one on my stomach before.. the worst part is the having to stay still i think. Really bad at sitting still especialy if im told too \:

Ugh it's terrible with the neck thing on. Like you say, all you want to do is move your damn neck! :p

I've had loads of MRI scans, mainly of head/neck but also a few of my spine. The sound is terrible. Some of them has music playing so that helps.

Last time I had one (full body scan) It was just a big doughnut thing that 'scanned' me and I didn't go into it. Or is that a different type of machine? I think the woman there said it was a newer version of the machines or something.

I’ve had to have one or two of these myself. Felt a bit like I was being loaded into a giant tumble dryer.:D The head cage is particularly restrictive. The only good point is that you can take your CD’s in and get them to pipe it into the MRI.;)

All in all though it's not a pleasant experience.

Yeah thats a different machine thats a CT scanner.... did they inject you with fluid while going in?

I had to have a brain scan last year, it wasn't one of those machines you go into, was more like a huge hoop with lasers all over it.

Worst bit was they laid me down and then all left the room! It's so eerie and then this sodding great hoop starts spinning inside. It moves you through and back a couple of times, I had my eyes closed but I was absolutely petrified inside, I couldn't have forced my eyes open for anything.

I wouldn't even open them until someone came back in the room. God knows what i'd be like with one of those machines they put you inside, I honestly think i'd freak out. Can't stand small spaces with stuff whirring around above me.

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

It's hard to explain but mine was just a hoop suspended in the air. It wasn't really claustrophobic at all, just unnerving and eerie.

The ones I wouldn't be able to deal with are the enclosed ones, they freak the **** out of me just watching others in them. :o

Im not botherd about mri machines but I hated the new xray machine they used last week for my wisdom teeth.

Put my head into a cage while standing had to bite on a stick and the machine comes down and spins all around your head. Thats fine the problem was the guys like you have big shoulder you might feel it pushing you down. It about broke my damn neck :p

i have had a couple of mri scans over a bad back.
the first thing i noticed, was its very cramped. and the noise, it was like a jackhammer working beside your head.

second time they gave me earphones to listen to, i just closed my eyes and nearly fell asleep ;)

thats a CT scanner, i had one a few months ago, its like something out of stargate!

Zone out concentrate on the loud noise and go to sleep its the only way otherwise you just feel very enclosed and get tempted to press the button. Doesn't help when you have that big mask on.
