No it's not essential, it's just there are some nice touches in DS2 that you won't appreciate without playing the first.
You'd be playing two awesome games rather than just one. Can't see any reason not to.
Will try and pick it up cheap then. Hopefully the second one will have dropped in price a bit.
Use the locator to find where you need to go.

Just watched a video showing the Hand Cannon you get when you finish on hardcore. That's some funny ****!
I'm currently using the node glitch to power up everything. There's now way i'm going to play through it enough times to power up properly. I'm only doing 4 weapons so have opted for the plasma cutter,ripper,pulse rifle and force gun.
The shades drop a lot of ammo, kill them!
Surely that takes the fun out of it?
I am just shy of Chapter 4 me thinks, I did do a recording, but far too embarassing to post here lol.
Such a good game! Very smooth as well, have yet to notice a slow down with it looking so good!

Ha! Tell me about it, my first run through I got to the final boss with 2 cans of flamethrower fuel and that was it...
Best thing to do, is wait for loads of the shadow things to appear, then kill you know who, when you know who dissapears all the shadow things die automatically and drop a ton of stuff. Run round and grab it all, and repeat a couple of times until you have enough ammo.
It's a right pig.
My 2nd run through I knew what was coming so I stocked up on ammo, and ran through most of the rooms leading up to it as you really don't need to fight them all, and the boss fight is soooo easy when you have ammo, took about 10 shots of the Seeker Rifle and about 20 seconds and it was all over!
BTW - Advanced Elite Suit = Carbon Fibre Godliness!

By the end of my first run I had max RIG, max Stasis, and maxed out 2 guns with nodes to spare.
I'd maxed 2 more guns on my 2nd play through within a couple of hours.
Much more fun than save/reloading over and over...
By the time I finished my 2nd run through I had nodes coming out my ears
Anywho, i've now got 45/50 achievements, 2 I can get easy tonight, 3rd is a bit tricky (not missing any of the things climbing on the lift to the solar array), and the other 2 I can't be bothered with atm (Zealot and Hard Core).
It takes less than 2 runs to power up.

From just picking them up or buying them?
I'm on chapter 6 and have found about 10 of them but have used 2 to get into locked rooms.
I'm not sure whether I should be selling old suits or not?
I've been moving pretty much everything spare into my safe apart from semiconductors which I have been selling.
You can't sell old suits. They just stay in you locker. That way you can swap between suits to wear whichever one gives you the bonus you prefer. Or whichever you think looks best
You will keep the armour and inventory slots of whatever suit you bought last.Not quite - it's whatever the maximum is. So if you bought a suit with 25% armour and then a suit with 15% armour, your armour will be 25%.

Defo won't be trying a hardcore run, I would screw up the scripted parts of boss battles. You know the bits where a boss appears and you have to shoot certain bits.

Picking them up and selling everything I don't need.
First run through I just used Plasma Cutter until right at the end where I bought the Flame Thrower as well.
Sold any ammo that I found (that wasn't Plasma), looted everything I killed, sold stacks of stasis recharges that I didn't need, never bought any health packs (too expensive!), and blew all my cash on suits and nodes.
Had max RIG, Stasis, Plasma Cutter, and Flame Thrower from doing that, a few spares to take over into the next game.

One tip I can give for buying from the shop - once you buy the vintage armour make sure you always equip it before buying anything as it gives you 10% off. I didn't like the suit so just kept swapping it at the shop.
