Win 7, 64 vs 32, Help please :)

Right-o

Think im finally going to take a gamble and get me sen windows 7 after using XP since day one to this day (Im like a old man i Hate change, if its not broken dont fix it etc, even got a 7 year old mobile phone that does its job haha)
But due to a lot of new games requireing better than XP etc and the bloody anoying thing where i cant use AA in bad company 2 etc!

So, which shall i go for, 32bit or 64bit, what are the differences?

I know that XP 64bit was a bit iffy if i remember as a lot of programes wouldnt run on it or something, so is 32bit a safer choice? or is all this fixed in windows 7.

Would some one list the differences and benefits of 32-64 compaired?

64 is 32 x 2 so it must be better. ;)

But seriously, I have expereinced ZERO problems running 64 since May last year. There is no other option.

XP64 was a looooooooong time ago. It's like asking if they ironed out the leafsprings on a Ferrari.

The biggest difference is the much larger address space. Simply put, in 32bit architectures you are limited to around 3.75GB of memory. 64bit allows as much as you can fit in a motherboard. Any motherboard. Anywhere.

The drivers are also all signed for 64bit Windows 7, so they stand a good chance of being pretty good, since they have to pass MSs standards to get signed.

It is also the future.
 
32 bits OS are going to be abandonned,
anyway 32 bits apps run on 64bit OS, there is no point now getting a 32bit OS. You'll have no problem with it.
On top of that a 32bit windows cannot use 4GB of ram, only use around 3 GB
and I wouldn't put less than 4 on a PC now.
 
yes, I have 4, and I'm thinking of getting more, I love running thousands of things at the same time. People seem to underestimate this component. It is one of the most important thing in a pc. w
 
Can someone put '64bit Windows is better than 32bit' in massive letters at the top of this forum, so we don't get yet another of these next week.

OP: You wont regret upgrading to Windows 7, it's a breath of fresh air compared to XP :)

Think I read somewhere that Win7x64 will recognise nearly 200GB... Can't remember the exact number, think it was something odd like 194 - still... "lots" :)

I'll be swapping to 7x64 sometime next week - gotta make a list of all the programs I've installed and then it's off to 64bit land :)

I only got the 32bit version cos it was a gift, so not complaining, but I want more RAM as my 2GB is a little bit lame lol

In case you don't already know the serial code you used to install 32Bit Windows 7 will work with 64-bit as well. No need to buy a new license :).
 
It all boils down to your machine.

If you can get 64-bit drivers for your hardware bits, install 64-bit and reap the performance increase.

If not, settle for 32-bit, there's very little in it performance wise as most applications are still built for 32-bit. And with Windows 7 32-bit supporting PAE, there's no more 4GiB limit for your memory, only for a single process.

Yeah, I knew but thanks anyway man :)

I downloaded the x64 bit from here, apparently it's the same as the microsoft download files (note: "apparently" - I'm just going by what I read lol)
