My trial card just turned up so thought I'd share here.

"A tastecard membership gives you 50% off the total food bill or 2 meals for the price of 1 at all 4,500+ participating restaurants. What's more; you can always order from the full a la carte menu, so your choice will not be restricted in any way."

Quite big savings can be made! I think after the trial it's a paid membership thing.

Price seems to have gone up, a year ago I'm sure they were only £25 or so for 12 months, now they're £70. Still, they're great for those fancy restaurants where the food bill easily goes over £100, just remember to only order tap water :p

Nothing about the length of the trial period but:

You will receive an email near the end of your trial period with an option to join up at a special promotional rate, so keep an eye on your inbox!

I'v been using this for about a year now, use it almost every other day in London (lunch etc) and even when I go to visit friends (used in Portsmouth / Edinburgh), really is a great investment. Not many of restaurants accept it on a Sat night but there are a few decent ones around!

This seems pretty good...is there a catch? 50% off is quite a bit deal at some of the restaurants in my area!

I've been out with pals who have and use the taste card and have always found the menu options are really restricted to the point that you need a degree to understand what food you can order that would be accepted as part of the deal...

No catch that I can see. Just remember, that some places you need to call ahead (when you're booking) to tell them you'll be using a card.

After the trial runs out you then pay an annual fee to have a card.

Really? It's usually everything on the menu accept any specials they have, or events like valentines etc. Can't say I've ever had a problem with most of the menu being restricted!

I have this £70 per year..

got a little book here, has list of restaurants (there's also an iphone app apparently)

Restrictions are as follow

2 meals for 1 OR 50% off the total food bill..

What that means is that the 2for1 places, if you order one meal you get another free, however if you order a side, that is at full price.. Obviously that includes courses, (which therefore restricts selection)

@ some places, Friday or Saturday evenings do not accept the card because its busy, they dont need extra promotion.

Some you must book via telephone, others you just walk in and inform them when you get the bill

some restaurants have only 1 use, i.e. you cant come back there again and use the same card :(

some restaurants have a maximum amount of people per taste London card
