They were pointless. All the maps are far to small for jet planes, and the last thing we need is another game where everyone waits at the deployment area for fast jets/helis to then just go and base rape the other team with.
As for attack helicopters, I think they really ruin BC2. I hate it when Im having a great tank battle on Atacama Desert then some **** rocks up and spams me with rockets from the attack helicopter he has just spent 5 minutes sitting still to make sure he gets. Then after he's finished with me, he goes and circle strafes my spawn area for the remainder of the game. What fun.
Seriously, I think the attack helictopers should be taken out. Armed transports are fun, like the UH60, but attack helicopters are just too much of a temptation for morons. I love the infantry and tanking element of BC2, but these games are too small in scale to incorporate air support properly. I'd much rather see more ground vehicles and armour, forget jets and restrict helicopters to support role.
I don't mind that they exist.
My problem with them is that unless you get a pilot who allows himself to be fairly stationary, they are really difficult to take out.
Taking one down relies on:
(i) - A level having AA guns or an AA vehicle. Smart pilots take these out before they even get a chance to use them. In comparison, although 1943 was full of planes, there were AA guns everywhere.
(ii) - Getting a a tracer dart on them is only possible if they are flying slow. If they circle strafe it's impossible.
The biggest issue I think is that the lock on rocket launcher is basically useless. If it actually took down choppers easily, then then it would be fine, but nobody bothers with it because it's terrible.
Battlefield is a real rock, paper, scissors kind of a game, the attack chopper being circle strafed makes itself immune to that game mechanic.
