DJMK4's new car checking thread (before I buy)

Whats peoples thoughts on Seat Leon 1.9TDi 150 Cupra's ?
Very good.

The engine is a very strong unit but the ancillaries can be weak. It's light on fuel given the power and it's got decent shove.
The downisdes are that the engine's about as refirned as a Massey Ferguson.

Perhaps I'm biased as I had a Cupra 4, but I sank thousands into the bugger and would still recommend one. Just find a good one :)
I'd take a 1M over a 1P any time. The new Leon looks horrid.

There's also a wealth of information on www.seatcupra.net

OK funding is sorted, went for a loan in the end, 8.6% Alliance/Santander - £5500 over 3 years with overpayments allowed (so should be payed off in 1 year 6 months or so) - Total repayment £6220

What are you thoughts on this? (I shoud be able to get him down by about £100-£150 on this)

Not a bad looking golf. Get a good discount off and you can pay a wedge off your loan already :)

I hopefully "should" get him down to maybe £5.5 cash in hand hopefully, he said he would be willing to accept offers as long as its not taking the Michael.

I have asked for a few additional pics so just waiting for them to come through via e-mail, if all looks good I am going to try and hop down to Bath to take a look.

In the mean time I have a weekend of further hunting ahead of me.

I have 4 days until the loan comes through anyway.

My dad is trying to pump the idea of a Vauxhall in to my head, (1.9CDTi SRI) - Iv been warned, whats wrong with these?

astra / vectra? which year?

i'd prefer the golf tbh.

My dad suggested Astra 55, my mate suggested Vectra again 55, im not fussed tbh :o but my dad being dad uses the classic line "Think outside the box" I know more about cars than him

Dads are always right, just look at me, never a mistake made ever :D

Don't g et an Astra Diesel, it's a stupid idea.

I'm not sold on that Golf however, but you're on the right lines. It just depends really what you want in a car.

What I would say is: Yes you car is knackered, but don't just rush for the first car you can buy. Make sure you get a good example first.

Loads to choose from on AT and PH, just have a nice slush fund to budget for things like injectors and turbos (1k? ish). Has all the suspension trickery of the ST220 so is brillaint to drive. Better than a Golf by a country mile. Just make sure you're aware what the risks are and that it has 18" rubber.
