Hello,

Quick question - can graphics cards that have 3 monitor outputs (eg 2 dvi and 1 hdmi like the 480gtx) drive 3 monitors at the same time for windows desktop use?

thanks

you can run 3 screens as seprate screens like but not as a group like eyeinfinity or nv surround so if you played a game it would only be on one moniotr or if you maximusied a window it would only fill one screen

I'm pretty sure on the NV cards that they HDMI output is shared with one of the DVI outputs, and therefore you can only use one or the other, thus giving you only two outputs.

The newer ATI cards can drive up to four displays on a single GPU card.

ATI cards can drive up 4 screens with Eyefinity from a single card., Nvidia can do 3 monitors but you need two cards in SLI.

As above with the ATi cards but with NV, it depends what you want to do when running more than 2 monitors, if you want to use the surround function (1 game on all 3 monitors) then 2 or 3 GPU's in SLI would be required. If you just want to run 3 monitors+ without this feature then any 2 cards can be used.

Currently I use an 8800 to run 2 normal monitors and a gtx 280 to run the main monitor (3 in total) :p
