Whats better Sky HD or Virgin?

Hello I currently have Sky + with all the packages and multiroom but I am moving house soon so I am considering switching to Sky HD or even Virgin HD?

Can you please tell me the differences and give me your opinion?
 
For me it's like this when you move house:

Can the property get cable?
YES = Go Virgin
NO = Get Sky

I prefer everything about Virign media and can't really think of one benefit of Sky for me.
 
In my opinion:

Broadband speeds = Virgin
Choice of HDTV = Sky
Sports and movies = Sky
TV PVR facility = Virgin
EPG = Virgin (assuming Samsung box)
Customer service = Virgin
Telephone = much of a muchness, choose on price

Virgin also have mobile phones of course, so if you want a 'quad play' then this might come into it for some.
 
TiVo on Virgin might actually convince me to jump ship. TiVo runs rings around any other EPG - period (I still own a PVR10UK, though it's long since fallen into disuse due to having old/small disks and being all-analogue).
 
Happy Sky user here we were with virgin before and found on more then one occassion that the customer support was bad.
 
We used to have Virgin in our old house and because we can't get it in our current house, we have Sky.

I can honestly say Viring was so much better. Yes, the box was abit slower but it was fab having BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, 4OD, etc all on the Virgin+HD box, it was great.

I would definately go back to virgin if it became available.
 
44 HD channels on Sky better Tv, Virgin 17HD but better internet.
If you want the tv aspect only Sky alway way unless you can get a virgin tivo box

I can have either in my house, I currently have Sky HD, simple because I prefer the EPG and whole ease of use, and like the mass of HD channels.

I will jump ship if things change, but the V+HD box (My neighbours all have it) doesn't do it for me, clunky interface, and the quality of stuff using iPlayer/4OD isn't too hot on a large screen..

A few people I know have SKY HD and 50Mb Virgin broadband, best of both worlds, but you pay through the nose for it all..
 
I don't know the current Virgin interface, but seems to be that a lot of people slate it. Assuming they do it right (and they should), the new boxes will change all that. I see it thus:

Channels: Sky > Virgin - though it obviously depends what you watch and which package you choose.
On-Demand: Virgin > Sky - Sky Anytime sounds like it's a pale shadow of a true on-demand service.
iPlayer et al: Virgin > Sky - Sky don't have this capability.
Internet: Depends - Both have their good points (Sky's cheapest package is cheaper and doesn't traffic shape, but Virgin can be considerably faster).

I'm very much at the point of making this decision myself. I believe my TV to be HD capable, but I've yet to get the HDMI socket to work. Here's hoping it is because I don't want to replace it just now.

I've put myself on the Virgin mailing list - just in case. :)

Previous Sky owner who now has Virgin because it works out cheaper.

IMO

EPG - Sky hands down, my box is slow and clunky.
HD Channels - Sky again
On demand - Can't really comment as I don't use but Virgin seems to have the upper hand on what I can see
Customer Service - Had problems with both and they're both useless
Internet - Virgin 50mb here so no complaints! Had Sky unlimited before, I was a fair way from the exchange but it worked pretty well. No throttling or anything
 
Sky HD is better than V+ until Virgin release the TiVo box.

Virgin + points:
Great on demand choice

Three tuners

Access to iPlayer, 4OD & ITV Player

Virgin - points:

The interface is very dated and sometimes confusing. The GUI isn't even widescreen optimised let alone HD!

The v+ box is generally a lot more sluggish then the SkyHD box

There's normally a long gap between new Sky channels being released and when they're carried by Virgin (The current example is Sky Atlantic)

Virgin V+ has a better on demand range but virgin boxes have a habbit of slowing down sometimes when changing channels to quickly and can be slow to respond.

Sky hd is a lot faster and easier to use
 
was with virgin been with sky since december. Prefer the sky both and the picture quality seems a lot better than the virgin v+(samsung).
Internet seems about the same but without the packetloss and bad pings during peak times woohoo.
