2011 Weight Loss Thread!

I've been on it since october, same height as you and started at 20.0 stone. I do have a much bigger frame though, so weight loss won't be as easy. I'm down to 18st1 now, and have dropped 2 trouser / jean sizes as well as increased my chest and arm size a fair bit (some of the tops i used to be able to wear are now too tight, despite having a considerably smaller body lol)

I've not changed my diet as much as I should've, else id probably down to my ideal weight already. I've started playing basketball again after 5 years off. I weighed 14.5 stone when I stopped playing!!!! I was only 17 at this point and had a boys frame, my shoulders and chest have naturally grown a massive amount since then, and I was still quite thin and toned @ 17 stone, it was the last 3 that killed me.

Atm I go to the gym 2 to 3 times a week (since January) and train/have a game twice a week in a competitive basketball team (since the end of october) that trains fairly hard. It's been a lot of work but I feel IMMENSELY better already, I am not as tired, I can actually run up the flight of stairs at work now and not feel out of breath!

My diet isn't massively bad, I cook most of my own food from scratch but don't really cut out some of the stuff I should (i'm a sucker for rich sauces and they almost always have red wine in them somewhere :x), but mainly I need to cut out the lazyness of stopping for a bite to eat when I know there is nothing in the fridge at home! Both from a financial and health point of view if i stopped eating out I'd be massively better of.

What's your aim? I'm aiming for 17-17.5 initially with an increase back up to 18-19 stone once I've cut and have started putting muscle mass on.

This was me 2 years ago @ 17.5 stone:

good luck guys, i am currently in a weightloss thread of my own, after losing 5st in 2008 and doing almost 6 mile runs 3 times a week, i have managed to put half the weight back on in 18 months after having an operation on my knee which screwed my running..... (you could ague running screwed my knee i guess ;) )

its a b1tch but defo doable.... I like a drink and good food at the weekend so for me it is all about eating healthy during the week and keeping the exercise up to allow my indescretions at the weekend..

I am getting married at xmas this year so my aim is to get down to 16 stone by then. currently just under 20... up from 17 at start of 2009.

I am 6ft 2inch and heavy set so am hoping i will look about right at 16st. I was *almost* there at 17st but screwed it up. bloody depressing!.

seeing as it looks like running is out, i have a gym induction with our works fitness trainer on Thursday.

I HATE the gym but needs must and all that.

I'm not the muscly type, I'd like a bit from jogging / mountain climbing but nothing mad.

When I cut out the rubbish last time and followed a food plan, I dropped down to about 14 stone and look so much healthier. I'd like to sit between 14 and 15 stone I think. :)

I have a free gym at work, and will probably join a 'proper' one with pool facilities etc when money is a little easier. I have another one of those Rovers we nearly hit a sheep in, on the Yorkshire Dales meet so all my money seems to go on fuel. :p

I was approaching 11st last year, I remember weighing myself around Oct/Nov being 10.13 so I started to cut the crap, strict simple diet of Special K, Dinner, Biscuit, Special K and thats it, plus water/juice/tea but thats it.

As of yesterday I weighed in at 10st.

This is a guy who's in a wheelchair and because of Arthritis any form of exercise can result in a lot of pain/swelling.

It's all about a change of habit and fighting through that 'pain' of not having certain things like drink pepsi or eating chocolate.

You just have to make that change and STFU and get on with it.

Consistency, its the number one thing I find when it comes to getting rid of the weight. Be consistent with what your eating making sure your getting in a good amount of veg, lean protein and healthy fats everyday

Spot on!

I'm trying to build muscle at the moment whilst looking to lose a little bit of weight and have lost more weight (1/2 stone) in the last 4 months than I did for 2 years of inconsistent gym and rubbish diet. I'm eating the most I have ever done in my life - just the right stuff, little and often!!

Consistency and diet are the two things that will help you no end!

My weight is constantly up and down. I am one of those people who whatever they eat, will manifest on their body! I dropped from ~18 stone (115kg) down to ~11.5 stone (75kg) a couple of years back and have bounced around ever since. Currently at my biggest since then (~15 stone, 96kg) and aiming to get back to goal weight within 4-5 months.

It's the girlfriend I tell you. Woman will just not stop feeding me :(

Re-edited with pictures, as you can see I'd look a bit strange any less than 17 stone, and once the muscle starts to build ill be heavier. I'm absolutely skint too but have decided id rather be skint and be going to the gym for my own health than have the £8 a week that it costs in gym membership in my pocket but paying for it in the long run by being a fat ****.

Good point, I'll be reviewing the budget to squeeze it in.

Massive difference between the 20st pic and the one from today - wow

A lot of that is camera angle as the dimension from the front of my chest to the back of my back seems disproportionately large, so i look HUGE from side profiles lol

You don't need a gym at all.

Rope skipping is a a great workout, all you need a little patch of suitable ground and a £5 rope. Start off with a couple mins and build up to a few rounds of 5-10 mins. It's absolutely brutal if you do it right and quite fun.

3 times a week in the winter I do 4x 8 min rounds of skipping, 3x 20 dips, 3x 6-12 pullups (slow no kipping), 3x 60 cruches, 3x 30 hanging knee raises. In the summer I add in a bit of swimming, short distance trail running and fartleks. Where I go running there is a playground that has perfect bars for dips and pullups. I also have a heavy duty VKR tower at home.

Cost is practically nothing and you wont catch MRSA.

I have a gym membership as well but I hardly ever go. It's still stuffed full of people doing their new years resolutions and you have to wait for ages to do anything. Dies down in a couple months but by then I'd rather be outdoors.

And if you dont have enough room at home to skip, or door frames strong enough for pullup bars....or like me you can't road run due to shin splints. Everything you've described bar pullups is purely cardio, I do minimal pure cardio at the gym, I do that in basketball. I do high rep semi cardio weights etc, which without forking out for a set of weights and then having nowhere to put them wouldnt work. For me the gym works quite well and I never have to wait for equipment, so for 8 quid a week it is money well spent especially as its accessible all year round with regulated temperatures.

Im currently trying to loose weight. At max i was 14st 12lbs. Back in 2008 i was around 11 stone 8lbs (apparently going from shelf stacking in a supermarket to working with computers is a lot of lost exercise!).

At the moment im trying to stop snacking. Ive cut out all drinks with sugar in (bar no added sugar squash, something like 0.9g of undiluted squash), i dont eat chocolate or sweets anymore and i dont eat any cakes or puddings either. The main reason is because my teeth became sensative to sweet things and the dentist said there was nothing currently wrong.

Looks like so far ive dropped 2 - 3 lbs over about 2 weeks just from those changes alone. I have also just started the 100 push up challenge and am trying to keep to 3 meals a day (rather than snacking a lot in between).

Once the weather gets a bit better il go back to cycling.

snacking between meals is actually a good thing if you make the meals smaller instead, it increases the metaboism. Of course it has to be the right things or itll end up making things worse.

That is true, but im always to lazy to have the right snack, so it would often be snacks with lots of sugar in.

was 20.6st in august, hated myself! now 17.6st and feel better, im 6ft5 so hide it well, want to get down to 15, doing nothing other than weightwatchers and some more exercise, going to be cycling once the weather clears up

I use to be 20 stone at 16, then when i left school i went down to 18-19 then moveda way from home 3 years ago and got down to 15-16 stone... i have been weight training for about 2 years properly now and im about 16.5-17 stone... eat 3-5 meals a day, no carbs past 6pm.. 3 litres of water a day (water is a natural fat burner) i eat a lot of EFA, the best diet i have ever done was a few a months ago... a low carb diet.. in a month i dropped 1.5 stone.. brought back carbs gradually and ive only put back on around .5 stone....

hardest thing i felt was quiting the fast food and replacing it with good carbs, brown rice, sweet potato etc...

If you drink alcahol then you need to stay off the beer/snakebite.. drink vodka and diet coke... thats all u can do with alcahol (when alcahol is consumed its used as an energy source before anything else in your body, this means that anything you eat whilst you have alcahol in ur system is not being used as energy)

Another major thing i found is... LEARN about how your body works, this makes you aware of when you eat you can judge roughly what your body is going to do with the food...

This is me 3-4 years ago at around 19 stone.. i stayed like this till about 2009

Me a few weeks ago... in the middle.... at 16.5 stone and been training for over a year or so

im happy how i am atm but im a bit addicted to the gym :P

just checked my BMI:

BMI Categories:

•Underweight = <18.5
•Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
•Overweight = 25–29.9
•Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

Ive gone from 34.1 to 30.8......leaving me still in the OBESE category. I don't consider myself anywhere near obese, nor muscly enough to distort it.

What a load of tosh that scale is lol

I'm 11 stone at 5ft 10, Looking to lose the gut, and gain some lean mass. I hit the weights 3 times a week, My own Gym freeweights and I Run\Swim 2\3 times a week. I have a strict diet so aslong as I maintain what I'm doing while altering weights lifted and calories\proteins taken in. I should be able to end up with a pretty damn good physique.

Oh and I exchanged Semi-Skimmed milk for whole milk today.

I've kicked redbull, chocolate and crips. So my only Vice is full fat milk, which isn't exactly unhealthy! So I'm happy :D
