Vegas!

probably going to get flamed for this (Dons flame proof pants)

Anycase thier is a very good bus service that picks you outside the statosphere and takes you to the strip. It runs every 5-10 mins, 24hrs per day, and is cheap, we got day passes, so much cheaper than taxi's. It also takes you downtown to the freemont street experience.

The Deuce

it is dog slow though and if there's 4 of them a taxi won't cost much

There is more to the problems with the Stratosphere than it's location! It's a dump that attracts dead beats we spent about an hour in the place to have a quick trip to the top and I felt uncomfortable the whole time we were there, nowehere else on the strip has such a cheap seedy feel to it. Trecking up and down the strip night and day is hardly an exciting way to spend your holiday! When we went we split our stay bettween the Luxor and the Paris and I found staying in the middle of the strip much more enjoyable, silly things like popping back to your room to freshen up took 20 minutes instead of an hour or two!

If you want a nice meal Sunday lunch go to the Paris place on the strip and have one of their all you can eat buffets - plenty of nice food with various French style dishes to choose from (and by choose I mean have them all one by one, of course) with all you can drink champagne for something like $25 :D

since the introduction of the buffet of buffets deal the queues at the Paris buffet have been huge, I agree it is one of the better ones though

We stayed at the Flamingo which was the cheapest central one we could find. Canyon is a bit of a trek to the south rim but well worth it. Id recommend going to see the Hoover dam too.

Do the rides at the top of the strat and apart from that just soak in the atmosphere, dont be afraid to jump on a table and get stuck in.

Oh yeah, dont go any further north than the Stratosphere, we did and it felt very dodgy. Even going to the stratosphere itself felt a bit uneasy. We got the monorail down so that might be the best way for you to get about.

monorail only goes as far as the Hilton not to the strat and for 4 folks costs more than a taxi anyway

yes the area around the strat is dodgy but Fremont St to the north is great

Just passed the Stratosphere some crazy looking homeless guy come up to my wife and asked if she had any spare change. Now she's normally quite street smart, but honest to god she looked him square in the eyes and said 'sorry I've only got notes' before I could even get in front of her however the homeless guy apologised for bothering her and started to walk off.

Still rib her about it to this day :D

Go and eat at Fat Burger (near the centre of the strip next to McDonalds) if you fancy a fastfood burger. Proper dive looking place and feels like a drive by shooting may take place at any minute, but the burgers and fat chips are awesome.

If you like the theatre go and see O at the Bellagio. A bit on the expensive side at £100ish a ticket but by far the best Cirque du soleil show on the strip.

Also go to the Gun store and fire off some guns.

Be brave and gamble! :D If you dont know how, there are usually free lessons in most of the Casino's in the mornings so have the lesson and get yourself down to Freemont Street to get the best odd's!

StevieP

ps. there is a great steak at a reasonable price at the Harley Davidson Cafe!

I was over in Vegas in October and the Monorail stops at the Sahara which is just a two minute walk down from the Stratosphere (where i stayed) and if i can remember off hand there was a 3 day pass unlimited usage for around 15 dollars i think sot its hardly expensive really and it doesn't take too long to get from one end of the strip to the other since it only stops about 4 / 5 times. Although the top end of the strip is a bit seedier, its common sense really. OP is traveling with friends i was on my own and carting about with 5 grands worth of camera equipment at all times of the day and night and wasn't bothered once, granted i did have a tripod that i could swing at folk if the need arose.

ah yes, does go as far as Sahara, monorail is still pretty crap though as all the stations are way out behind the casinos and if you are going to somewhere on the west side it is absolutely useless, so obvious it shoudl have been built raised above strip with escalators down to both sides like the one in Bangkok

Thanks guys :D im really looking forward to it, i dont plan on spending a lot fo tiem near the hotel tbh just to sleep really!

you'll certainly have plenty to keep you occupied when i was there a week just wasn't enough time :D

Hey Rotty, we are going back in March. Your advise came in very handy last time and the place has truely grabbed us by the wotsits!

Taking double the money we had last time (not that we ran out mind) and we are there for a day less!

What the hell, lets just blow it all and enjoy it.

Also there for St. Paddy's, which was AWSOME last time.

w00t w00t!

Find out the sunset time and head to the bottom end of the Strip. Go to the top floor of 'The Hotel' and watch the sunset and the strip light up. Amazing view and the cocktails are pretty good too. Don't forget the fountains outside the Bellagio after dark, every 30 mins and a must see!

Planet Hollywood is an awesome casino, and the ladies are all dressed up like dances, with many of them dancing around. Lively place too, the young persons casino. Remeber to have 'ID AT ALL TIMES', we even got ID'd when watching other people play standing behind them. We also got asked to leave Paris casino after 1 drink as they apparently didn't accept English driving licenses..... Weird considering the first drinks we were still holding were bought at another bar in the casino with our licenses..... Crap casino, avoid!!!

Played lots of roulette as it involved less thinking than blackjack. We payed for our 3 night hotel stay with our Roulette winnings (3 nights at The Platinum). It's a shame you are soo far away, but get involved with Taxis to the centre of the strip, it is a lot further than you realise.

Buffett Is supposed to be pretty good @ The Wyn!

Final and important note on drinks: When playing say roulette, make sure you get a waitress singled out and when you get your first round of drinks give her a good tip of say $5 a drink. Then she should come back to you quickly (expecting more good monies ;)), then maybe give her $2 a drink for all your subsequent drinks. Stupidly cheap drinking for an evening and lots of gambling.

Same with slots if you are so inclined. I once spent $20 in a slot machine (gabling a low amount) and the waitress kept me boozed up all night for tips (a LOT cheaper than the bars). Won $140, ended up hammered and got some food on the way back. If you do it right, it's a free night.

Of course, there's a lot more to Vegas than that, but you can save some cash on booze if you want to. :D

ohhh if your going to Vegas I would highly recommend going to Fremont Street and seeing the awesome light show they have there. Its a seems like a mile long this light show when your inside and the atmosphere is excellent and In between the light shows they have various live bands playing. Beer wise they do thiings called mermaids which is sort of American football shaped/size beer containers with a straw just to help you get smashed that little bit quicker :-)

When we were there we stayed at Hooters hotel and Hard Rock Hotel - If your looking to chill/pool it with a vibe then go to Hard Rock Hotel as the pool area is pretty dam lush, plenty of bars and pool parties ;-)

Man i so wanna go back and do it all again ;-D

Ps. Forgot to say if your into your weapons go to the Gun store in Vegas to try which ever fire armyou can think of.... Only gun range in America where you allowed to fire a fully automatic rifle :-D I went for a deal call the IRAQ PACK - which let you fire the Berretta, m16 and god bless a M249 saw!! Just lean into it :-D
