UFC 126 Thread

GSP would beat him it would be a boring ground and pound but he would do it, I rate GSP much much higher than Chael Sonnen and he beat Silva round the ring for 4 and a half rounds before getting submitted in the last minutes

Agreed.

Just got round to watching the event today.

Silva's kick was stunning :)

Impressed with Jon Jones also. Bader just didn't want to be there.

Howcome everyone is going on about GSP v Silva, they're in different weight divisions anyways so I dont think its fair to force them to fight. GSP does well at his weight and anderson silva does good at his weight division.

We all know weight is a big deal in fighting and I think sometimes when fighters move up or down it can be good or bad.

But I think most people online that want to see them fight dont think about this aspect.

I personally think its stupid, they're both well suited to the weight classes they're now.

Take a look at their personal traits:
GSP:
5 foot 11 inches,
170 pounds
76 inch reach

Anderson:
6 foot 2 inches
185 pounds
reach 77.5 inches

Thats the sad part of MMA is the weight division and never in a million years being able to see two guys compete against each other. I don' think either could drop/add weight to make the same weight class without sacrificing some part of their game.

I would like to see Brock Lesner fight Fedor. :)

Everyone wants this fight as GSP has all but cleaned out the WW division as soon as he beats Shields, and Silva has cleaned out the MW division. They are both at the top of their games right now, it's a super fight.

GSP has said if he moves up it will be a permanent change as he wants time to put on the muscle properly and doesn't want to rush things.

People make a huge deal on weight but it's more about body make up I think, Cain showed you don't need to be a 265+ monster to take Brock out. Edgar showed you don't need to make huge cuts to beat the 155 fighters, he could easily fight at 145 but chooses not to.

I want the fight and hope it happens, 2 of the best in the world going at it. What's not to like?

Yup. My only concern with GSP leaving welterweight is it leaves a derth of talent behind it... Koscheck as champ? Really! Shields? Yawn, Hardy? Good salesman but been found wanting.

I think a fine example of weight actually being a problem was seen in the recent Griffin vs Franklin fight. When someone who is used to being much bigger and using his size to power people out in Franklin comes against a much bigger Forrest, then they have problems. But they should know that and be smart enough to not take the fight.

PS: What are peoples thoughts on Demian Maia possibly dropping down to MW? I hope he considers it as the WW division are a lot more "ground" focused in my opinion than MW, with a lot less strikers at the top end (you dont really need to worry about Kos or Shields knocking you out with their pillow hands), and there isnt many better around on the ground than Demian.

If GSP leaves WW BJ Penn will be king once again.

As for Maia going down to WW if he can then it's a good move but with the example of Kos, he has got some KO power remember what he did to Yoshida, the problem for Maia would be getting him down as he has sick BJJ yes, but wrestles like a kitten.

I dont think Maia needs to get anyone down. I think he just needs to do what he did to Anderson Silva but more tactfully, maybe even pull guard from the standing position etc.

Anderson said he was working on that kick for the past few months with Steven Segal.

Not true, If you watch TUF season 8 (2008). Big Nog was brought in Anderson as an assistant coach and Silva was using it in sparring.

lol with steven segal ? thought he was busy being a copper...

Anyhow hopefully GSP beats shields and gives him his 1st loss in like 6-7 years? maybe more....

I wanna see danas super fight as he labels it and GSP really does need to go on up and actually face challenges and losses only from there he can move forward !

The thing is Anderson silva you simply cant mirror someone like that so GSP is gonna have the biggest fight of his career with that one.

As for UFC was amazing... one of the most stacked/decent cards in a while... lets hope it gets better for 2011.

Also I find it so funny Rashad Evans waited a year for shogun only for him to be injured and out the title shot after all that lol, I think shoguns gonna have a big test against Bones... Bones has a good chance but yeah hes perhaps never met such a powerful striker in shogun so will be an amazing fight and to think its due in 6 weeks time!

Im gonna predict Bones for the win that guys another Anderson silva and he just gets better and better... this means Rashad will not go for the title then since hes buddys with him!

Rashad's saying now that he'll move weight class if Jones takes the belt !

I love that this super fight of GSP/Silva is becoming a reality, hopefully all that's needed is for GSP to rinse Shields :p

Although there is talks of Silva/Okami in Brazil while GSP builds the muscle

I guess if it does go ahead, and if it's all done right to make it fair, then I guess it would be awesome, they're like the two greatest fighters. I almost dont want it to happen though because I like em both so much and dont want even one to lose, but if they fight one of them has to lose lol, stating the obvious, but its just what I was thinking earlier today.

I think GSP could beat silva but my money is still on silva, but if anyone can beat him it's got to be GSP.

Also what is so great about this fight is that if it happens, they'll defo have a rematch, so it's defo going to be two fights, if it goes ahead. So that would be brilliant.

I think I'm changing my tune now, before I was against this happening, but since last night to today, the more I think about it, the more it sounds good to me lol.

Well like I said before, I kinda dont want it to happen, but I also kinda do. Howcome GSP has to gain weight though, why does it all fall on GSP? howcome anderson doesnt have to lose weight instead?

Which way round is more fair do you think, and which would be easier for which fighters?

He's been using it for years but it's never landed as cleanly.

And I had to laugh when they mentioned he'd been picking up techniques from Steven Segal. Anderson Silva. Steven Segal? Just LOL! :p

Though I had no idea how much talent Segal actually has. I just picture him as a comedic action hero.

Seagal hugged Silva before he went into the cage as well :p

One of my most wanted fights has been announced for UFC130. Frank Mir vs. Roy Nelson. Should be a good fight, both have very good technical ability and a solid enough punch. Rematch of their grappling match years ago. I just hope Roy is in better shape than the JDS fight, he took all of JDS shots but just couldn't land any of his own. Would love to see him get trim at 205.
