Hi

Having recently discovered that Anglesey race track has been completely rebuilt and is aparently dam good fun, I'm thinking of trying to track day it later this year. However, as its a fair old trek from me, it would be a 2 day trip with a day of Welsh road driving to get up there (coming up from Bristol).

Obviously theres the Evo Triangle, but are there any other good roads you can suggest in Wales that would be worth a blast on the way up?

I live in Southampton. 300 miles each way with a track day in the middle is a bit much for a single day!

2 day trip = 1 day driving around Wales to get there, and 1 day track daying and driving back.

Ah i thought you meant 2 days to get there! :p It says coming from bristol in the OP too, which would mean its only 200~ miles

to be totally honest with you, nearly everywhere i went in wales was draped in stunning roads. youd be hard pushed not to have a top time there

unfortunately welsh roads are full of slow drivers which will annoy you, so either take a car with a tonne of power to overtake them, or go at he crack of dawn.

Sod driving on roads all day, have a go at Dawns crack.

(did I read that right?) :o:D

rough route id do

B would be a lunch break, at roughly the mid way point.... Maybe don't do all the detours in one day, maybe do some on the way there, and some on the way back?

for instance, on the return you could do the pass past snowdon and the Bala detour, then get onto normal driving later on. While on the way up you can do the Elan Valley (Point B) then get on with just main roads from that point on to save some time. While google maps says it takes x amount of time on those welsh roads, they seem to have forgotten you may be in the low 30s on your avg speed, so may take a big longer... Plus if you are stopping to take pictures etc.

Rough route back

As Matt82 said though its hard NOT to find a good road in wales.

I live about 20 mins away from the track there, don't try and find any decent roads on Anglesey - there really arnt any.

Go over the bridge to get back to the mainland and pick any road you want and head for the hills (you can't miss them) i'll be impressed if you find a bad road heading up there. Go for a blast in the evenings and early mornings

Contrary to popular belief there isn't a single speed camera in north wales they rely purely on the 'arrive alive' vans but there usually only out 8am-6pm and people are pretty good at giving you a flash to warn you.

The mountain road from the A5 through Ysbyty Ifan to Ffestiniog - single track fun
B4518 from Llanidloes has some cracking sections
A487 from Cross Foxes to Minffordd
