Ok hope you clever lot can help me. As I've put my own new build on hold I thought I would build a new pc for my mum!

Budget ideally £500-£550 (lower if possible)
Basically need everything.

Don't think I've missed anything but sure you will let me know if I have!
Is this spec to high for intended use?

Personally i would go for an AMD tri/dual core as it will save you some £££.
Onboard graphics should handle most tasks but maybe get a cheap card off the bay

@Mike, an extra CPU cooler is a complete waste of money if you're not going to OC or use any CPU intensive applications.

The stock cooler that comes with the CPU will be more than sufficient.

what about a GPU maybe you want to game or have 1080p video?

Was planning on using the integrated graphics. Maybe upgrade later if needed.

Ok, hadn't actually thought about OC but might later on.

You could save a bit of money on the monitor, as (no disrespect intended) your Mum probably doesn't need a 22" monitor: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-045-BQ

If she'll just be using it for web & Word then this may be of interest:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-266-OK
(The reviewer mentioned he built one for his sister-in-law for surfing and general e-mail stuff)

You could save even more wonga by getting this:

I'm using an Atom powered Netbook atm and it does Word processing just fine.
