Which would you rather have?

Hey guys, which would you prefer, a Mac or a PC? Please don't turn this into a Mac vs PC argument.

Also, don't mention games, cos it's not as if people play games or that's a motivating factor for computer purchases or anything.

kthx

It's not a comparison, that's why

If I asked you to choose between an apple and a bar of chocolate. Would that be fair?

It's irrelevant as it only a choice. Which would you accept as a free gift. I never asked anyone to weigh up the pros and cons.

Some people are making this a lot more difficult that it is. Just answer, Mac or Pc and why. It's realllll easyyyy.

im not being funny mate but you asked a really stupid question, your bound to get these replies, dont be so rude when replying to peoples comments, this has been asked hundreds of times and it quite frankly boring.

Hey guys, what would you prefer, a free apple or a free bar of chocolate? Oh, and ignore taste. And don't turn this into an apples vs chocolate debate.

DURR YOU GUYS ARE SO STUPID I TOLD YOU NOT TO TALK ABOUT TASTE

If you want a non gaming office PC why is your only choice an ugly gaming box with SLI'd graphics cards and a free copy of COD

For me I need a PC so I'd get whichever was worth more second hand, sell it and get a nice sleek energy efficient Sandy Bridge rig.

Back in the real world I'd take the PC home and use it as a gaming box

Theres nothing that I could do on a mac, that I can't do on a PC. Especially as I'll be running a dual boot/virtual machine of linux anyway.

The only thing a mac has going to it is style

As I mentioned before please don't take the photo as gospel, it was only a photo off ocuk that was the same price as the iMac. Think of it as any £1000 pc you like.

Ah ok, in that case I'd have a nice high spec PC.

Thing is however you cut it this all comes down to software. If I liked MacOS and the software I wanted to use was Mac based I would get the Mac. It does look very nice.

It doesn't just come down to software. For £1000 you could have a high spec sandybridge compared to a mobile version of the old gen i3.

Plus you can run Windows 7 on the mac. So, not just software :)

It is an interesting choice isn't it. Go for a Mac at £1015 or a Pc at £1015.

We all know the PC at that price point will trounce the Mac, but it depends on who is buying.

Most users on these forums know a great deal about PC's, they can do all sorts of things with them and also take them apart, rebuild them, upgrade and recycle. Almost everyone would say - go for the PC.

The thing is the ordinary man in the street who knows next to nothing about Computers sees things differently. They want to be able to go on the Internet, send emails to their friends. Print out their photographs, go on Facebook. They don't want to know what is inside the machine, they just want it to work. More importantly for most people they want it to look good.

They've been conditioned by Apple Adverts (which oddly started off telling us to think differently and break the mold) into believing their products are superior (internally they're not, spec wise they're not) but style wise they most definately are and this is what sets them apart.

Some Manufacturers are fighting back though, take a look at the Lenovo A700 which can be had for around the £1000 mark.

These are the specs....

23 inch HD touch screen
i5-430m processor @ 2.26Ghz
ATI Radeon HD 5650 1 Gb graphics card
4GB DDR3 1066Mhz memory
1TB hard drive
Blue Ray Drive
Windows 7
6 x USB 2.0 (2 x side, 4 x rear), eSATA, 6-in-1 card reader, 1394 (FireWire), headphones, mic, S/PDIF out, HDMI in, HDMI out, TV in, TV tuner, AV in, Adjustable stand, Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse, 4-in-1 Remote Control

As you can see it looks good and has a good specification. Put that up against the Mac and I think the ordinary man in the street would have a difficult time making up their mind.

Excellent point there. Like you said, if you have the knowledge you would go for the pc. For people who want the style and security, then they will pay a premium for the mac. The lack of viruses that effect OSX is also bound to be a huge selling point for people with less know how.

Cheers for contributing :)
