You can sync an IPhone4 to a PC and use its internet allowance!
and use it as a modem.

Im sat at my PC now courtesy of my GF's HTC Desire. It comes straight off her unlimited internet allolwance and i can confirm it is not chargable. (as long as we stay under 500 meg (which is enough for us)

But on Monday i was going to buy the IPhone 4, but nobody can tell me if it can act as a modem and sync it to a pc. Iv searched the internet, no joy.

might have to be the HTC Desire HD which stands up to, if not exceeds the IPhone

Yes, using MyWi or PDANet on a jailbroken phone. You can then either use the phone as a wireless access point, or connect via USB.

iPhone firmware 4.3 comes with the wireless access point functionality by default doesn't it?

Internet tethering is free on '3' by the way, via bluetooth or usb (without jb).

I don't understand how anybody would be happy with an at best 3G speed on their main machine though.

despite all the promises some of us still live in the countryside where adsl still is 1meg ,, so a good 3g can exceed it...

i know people who still use satelite as adsl isnt fast enough or in there area...

but most of those areas support crap 3g at same time..

and it takes seconds to apply mywi and be on the net through the tethering

isnt the next update brining ip4 to mifi type thing

Yes it is, although its likely that dependent on which carrier you're with whether the option will be available for 'free' similar to the situation with the tethering option.

As I understand on 'o2' and deff on 'Orange', you need to contact your carrier to enable tethering (which would be chargeable). As above, this feature is seamingly free on '3'.

Interesting looks like I can BT tether on my SIM free iP4 via TMobile - never tried til now. Posting via that as we speak :)
