Your next dream car : official McLaren MP4-12C stats released

Grown on me this thing, had a good nose around the one at Autosports (as best as I could) and it looked beautifully made and presented and now it has some nice numbers to go with it.

TBH I don't really like the look of it, my dream car would be a modified Ferrari 288 GTO, probably fit a Supra 2JZ engine and tiptronic gearbox, plus newer necessities like parking sensors, turn it into an everyday car :)

I think the McLaren is for people that have already had a Ferrari, 911 GT3, etc and are looking for something different.

I like your thinking, would need a sunroof and sat nav too

Supra engine in a ferrari? GTFO.

Why? it would mean increased reliability, which is something you would want in a car you would like to drive everyday and the performance would go up, win/win.

The best thing being it would cost less than but look a million times better than any super-car on sale today :D

sort of like getting Angelina Jolie in your bed and ripping her rack off and then shaving her head bald..

The Ferrari is a beautiful car with great performance however less than stellar reliability, swap the engine for one considered to be one of the best ever made and your away, all the benefits non of the drawback, unless your some kinda Ferrari fanboy ofc :P

It doesn't matter anyway, its just the car id buy if I won the lottery, you don't have to like it :P

:confused::eek:

You'd take out the ferrari V8 and put in a toyota V6? The engines were the best thing about ferraris of this era. The cars themselves were generally rubbish!

The new McLaren certainly has grown on me since the first few photos were released.

The 458 is still the better looking for me, but the McLaren seems to have it and all the competitors licked in all other departments.

I want. :(

No i'd take out the 2.9L Ferrari turbo V8 and put in a superior 3.0L Toyota twin turbo straight six. Personal preference I know but I think the looks were the best things about the Ferraris of the 80's so by putting a more reliable/powerful engine in I would have the best of both worlds.

Seriously I wasn't trying to derail the thread just posting my view on a dream car, would people who know nothing about the engines in question please stop replying with nonsense elite-ism lol.

It's nothing to do with nonsense elite-ism .... it's a different opinion to which we are all entitled to. I'm not even a fan of ferraris, but personally the idea of swapping those engines is a horrible idea!
It's a forum - just as you may express your desire to do something that another might consider completely senseless and tastless ;) I might express my opinion on such a mod :D

I do apologise however for the typo - I should have course have said straight six not V6! Although it doesn't change my opinion :)

Looks ace, was reading about it on McLaren's site last night. Love the obsessive attention to detail and the fact it has an engine and powertrain designed from scratch. The weight saving measures are intriguing too, it has a Li-Ion battery instead of a conventional one which is half the weight.

Looks every inch the ultimate performance machine. I have to say I'd consider one over a 458. It's unlikely I'll be in a position to choose between the two of course. Great testament to British engineering talent.

I don't have any speakers in work but I would imagine the Supra your ridiculing has some ridiculous after-market exhaust? [Edit: yes it does, garbage can noise-maker] The 2JZ is probably one of the best sounding engines to come out of the 90's. Again its just personal preference I prefer the sound of a straight six to a V8...
