Your dream holiday?

I did my dream holiday last year in Egypt.

7 day Nile Cruise taking in all the Temples on the way plus Abu Simbel.
3 days in Cairo and spending 2 hours inside the Great Pyramid.
5 days in Hurhada trying to relax but ............

Icelandic Volcano made it so we had to spend another week in Luxor where we went on 4 more trips to temples plus a day Nile Cruise up to Dendera.

Absolutely bloody amazing holiday and I can die happy.

Im stealing this guys. Me and the Mrs are saving up for our next holiday and Egypt is the place we want to go. It has the weather, the sights and the history. Love the stories and anything with some background and history fascinates us. There are others but this is first on the list.

Mine would be Japan or Argentina I reckon.

I'm going to the Carnival in Brazil in 2 weeks which should be pretty damn cool though \o/

Another vote for doing a safari. If you're thinking all-inclusive have a Google at Voyager Beach Resort, Mombasa. Very nice hotel, nice food, beaches and lovely surroundings!

Another place that looks very nice for safari's is the Okavanga Delta (Botswana). Camped right in the middle of the wildlife, a lot of reviews recommend here. Im hoping to do this next year.

Some kind of epic around-Asia holiday as it's the one continent I haven't been to. That or a month spent drinking, eating steak and snowboarding in the Bow Valley, Alberta.

Really depends on your interests.

Does "lots to do." include cultural sites / museums or canoeing and off road driving or clubbing ?

Asia for an anywhere in the world for two weeks will be hard even if you take Thailand out of it. Singapore will have you going for maybe 4 days, to a week but then there is Malaysia / Indonesia / Cambodia / Vietnam / Hong Kong / Japan / Australia etc all within reach.

Iceland may be good if you don't mind the cold. The US is great. NYC if you like cities, you can travel to Bear Mountain if you fancy some nature, walking and scenery. It is just s short(ish) coach journey away via Port Authority.

Other suggestions would be places like the Caribbean (although if you are planning on going to Thailand ....), Canada, Cuba or South Korea.

I can go anywhere in the world also ;)

Dream holiday, well I guess renting Necker Island for a few months for whole family, but seeing as I don't have several million hanging about will go back to maldives, my fave place to relax. Canada for op would prolly tick the boxes..

Luckily we can go pretty much anywhere we want so we dont really have a dream holiday. I suppose I would love to go to Fiji/Tahiti next.

First rule of dream holidays: Nowhere Easyjet flies to can count :p

I wouldnt say that at all, i am chartering a motor yacht of the coast of st tropez later this year with the aim to take it round the riviera. This is a fairly "dreamy" holiday for me.

Flying Easyjet to Nice

Me and the gf are looking for ideas. If you could go anywhere in the world for 2 weeks where would it be?

We want to go somewhere pretty special, long haul, wow factor with plenty to do. :)

BTW we are planning a 6 week Thailand island hopping holiday in the future so that will be a no go for this holiday.

Lake District - Its beautiful up there

I'm going to be visiting some of the National Parks in Utah and Arizona in May. Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Monument Valley, Grand Canyon etc. That is going to be pretty amazing.

Absolute dream holiday would be trekking through the Himilayas to Everest Base Camp.

Not googled that hotel yet but I think we have decided on Kenya. It seems to have a bit of everything, the hotel we've come across is Diani reef beach resort & spa. Not properly looked into it yet as Im doing that at the moment but it seems to tick all the boxes.

Great beaches
Coral reef (would love to go scuba diving)
Safari day trips

I think it should be the best of both worlds. A shimba hills day excursion safari looks good although I'm not really sure of the best ways to arrange this or who is reputable.

Don't think I fancy days on end of Safari or it might get a little tedious.

Anyone else recommend really nice hotels in Mombasa?

Some tips :

1) When you get to Luxor for the cruise you will be there during the day & night but don't be afraid to get off the boat and wander (basically turn right and keep walking by the Nile).
We were scared to get off but when we had to spend an extra week in Luxor we went all over the place.
While in Luxor there is Valley Of The Kings, Luxor & Karnak Temple that are on the usual tours.
When you go down the Nile there is at least 5 other Temples you will visit.

2) Do the Abu Simbel visit. It costs extra and it is a bit of a trek through the desert but you don't want to miss it.

3) Get to Giza early to buy your ticket. It opens at 8am and not many people know that you have to buy an extra ticket to get inside Cheops Pyramid and lots of arguing happens by the entrance to the Pyramid. There are 4 styles at the entrance - The first one is for the Giza Plateau, 2nd one for going inside Cheops Pyramid (£10), 3rd one for Chephrens Pyramid (£2.50) and 4th for Tour Guides. They only let 150 people inside Cheops (Great Pyramid) a day (that might be 150 am and 150 pm).

4) While in Cairo you will obviously go the Museum but see about going to Memphis and Saqqara about 9 miles south.
Try your best to go to the Red Pyramid which cost £3.
There is nobody there, you climb up the side of the Pyramid and then go down a small shaft which actually goes under the Pyramid into the Kings Chamber - wonderful.

5) We were lucky that the volcano blew which meant we booked other excursions to Valley Of The Queens, Ramasseum, Dendera, Abydos, Karnak Temple at night (crap), Luxor Museum and the Mummification Museum.

6) It is hot - be careful.

Some pics from 2 years ago when I spent just 1 day in Luxor and 1 day in Cairo and the rest in Sharm - http://www.disturbinthepeace.co.uk/egypt.htm
