A few years back when I had my Pug run-a-about and the tyres/dinner plates needed replacing, I decided to get some 206cc alloys complete with tyres for ~£160)

I put the trims on for a laugh. I know they are not to everyone's taste. But that's me, I don't follow the latest fashions or try to be in any in-crowd.

You mean like everyone else does? It's a car, thats what its there for. It doesnt give it some sort of special meaning if you have one car and use it for driving places..

Google says you're all wrong anyway, only VW owners can call their car a 'daily driver'

The point he's making is you can't really call a car your 'daily driver' unless you have something in your garage for weekend / fun / track use, as it sounds silly.
