Lateness at work

I'm 1, 2 possibly even 3 minutes late once every week or two. But that is an insane amount of time to be late by?!!

I'm surprised you weren't sacked by the end of September.

You were about 20 mins late every other day in September?! How did you not realise you should leave 20 mins earlier? ha

I did use it regularly when I was living in London. I bet you could get any number of buses, trains or the tube to do your journey. I grew up in a village in County Durham where there was one bus an hour. (Which still never came on time!) The public transport in London is some of the best I have ever seen.

Fair enough, I did just wonder if it was an impression gained by visiting here for a brief period as if you get it on a day when everything works it's marvellous (aside from the cramped/hot/smelly part that inevitably comes with some journeys). You are right, I could choose a different option to get to work but most of them involve guessing pretty early on if the train/bus is going to have issues and changing where I start my journey from accordingly - so yes, there's normally a way around it if there are issues but it's not always going to help if the problem I was having is lateness. I should make it clear again that I am impressed by how often London transport does work and relatively on time but it seems to me there is still a lot of room for improvement.

I don't put too much stock in the awards they give out for public transport either, I grew up in Edinburgh and Lothian Buses managed to win best bus company in the UK a couple of times while I was there - what sort of bus service do the other poor saps have to deal with. This is all way off topic but I rather suspect the topic isn't going anywhere.

It could go two ways, he accepts your apology and see's that you are genuinly going to change your ways or sacks you.

It's a disciplinary and unless he has had other warnings he won't get the sack (I don't think lateness on this scale can be described as gross misconduct).

He needs to sort it out and keep his nose clean now though because he's on his way.

Sometime my boss is 15 minutes late in, and it's good he is because I was late by 45 mins due to my alarm either not waking me or not going off (iPhone) although that was last week despite that the bug should be cured. Because we both are rarely in right on the dot it's easier to catch a break the one time you need it.

as said thats a lot of lateness

the only plus you light have is if you have worked after your shift by a few minutes each day to make up for it

still does not make it right but i would have thought it would look a tiny bit better

That is really unacceptable. You can’t blame London Transport only yourself. If I were you I’d pull your finger out pretty dam quick. It won’t kill you to get up much earlier. If it was up to me I’d have had you disciplined and sacked a long time ago. Can you ask to be put on flexitime?

Agreed, still if he justs accepts responsibility for he's actions, it will probably be better for him in the long run.

I'd be embarrassed even creating this thread. The odd 10-15 mins here and there but to do it continuously is not on. Every time you are late I imagine your colleagues are covering for you and are having to do their own work plus the work you should be doing. This is no doubt a burden.

Surely by looking at these figures it is glaringly obvious that you need to wake up 30-40 minutes earlier than you are at the moment. No one likes getting up early, I am up at 5am all this week but that's life if you want nice things in life.

On my placement year I was late a whole.......zero times.

I clocked in once or twice bang on time, but usually around 3-5mins early, just in case the traffic was bad.

OP: I agree with comments by other people. Stop being a pain and get your backside to work on time! You would have been let go if you had been doing this in 2009!
