As title says, I love Anno but I would like some more games to play for a bit of variation :) Sim City is also a favourite of mine just I hate how square everything looks (wish you could build proper curved roads!)

I'm looking at Settlers but I'm not sure how the gameplay is. I really don't care much for fighting and it seems like there is a bit of that in Settlers.

Any other suggestions? Something with population/resources/exploration/taxes etc.

I can vouch for tropico 3, played settlers 7 for about 10 minutes.

Tropico is about managing a cuban desert island and its populace, you can choose to be castro, guevera and many others or you can create your own.

I found the gameplay a tad simple for my liking, there isnt much to do within the interface, I think youre meant to sit back and watch things develop naturally.

If you dont mind the gameplay being a bit hands off then I think its worthwhile.

Settlers 2. Settlers 2 10th anniversary.

The rest of the settlers games are poop on a stick.

Settlers 2 and Anno 1404 are absolutely brilliant strategy games, its a shame that theres very few others like them because most strategy games these days are incredibly dumbed down to appeal to the masses.

Yea tell me about it. Like the new C&C. Quake.. ehem ehem C&C Arena? C'mon, that's not what C&C games are about.

Anno 1701? :D

Thanks for the tips :D Going to try the Tropico 3 demo and have a look at Cities in Motion when it comes out.

Also found out that there is a new Cities XL game so might give that a go if they have improved it. Won't be wasting money on Settlers :p

Settlers I never got past the demo. Got sim city 4 deluxe at xmas on steam sales, horrible.

I loved settlers 2, and I've bought III, IV and VI as well.

Those ones were all crap, such a waste of money.

Settlers II 10th anniversary was great though, I dont understand why they made all the other ones so crappy in comparison to Settlers II.

It also had one of all time favorite video game sound tracks:

I used to play the game for hours on end with that track on loop, and never got bored or fed up, and it always sounded and felt absolutely epic.

Maybe I'll try Settlers II if I can find it :p

I like Sim City as I used to play it a lot when it came out and there has not really been anything to replace it. Might not be so great now for someone new to it.

I do like games like Theme Hospital too (not themepark ones though) so anything similar that is a bit newer is also appreciated.

Got the flu so need something to occupy me :(

You can get settlers II as abandonware on dosbox if you look around. I have the CD copy but it doesnt work anymore so I needed to use the dosbox version.

Its really outdated now though with an ancient graphics engine, but I've played through it a couple of times over the last few years and still enjoy it.

It gets very difficult at around level 4 and up, just how they should be :p
