Well... I ran Crysis 2, I would say on average on a rez of 1900 x 1200, I get about 40-45 fps with 'hardcore' settings. I'm dreading DX 10/11.

like i said, never played crysis, but read that it was badly coded so very little could run it smooth? will this be the case with crysis 2 or will the higher end cards stand a chance of maxing it?

Since you included Crysis the only answer is a GTX580 as it's really the only card that can really handle it maxed out at a decent framerate, otherwise a HD6850 would be fine.

At 1920*1080 even a GTX560/GTX570 would handle it maxed out at decent frame rates

Agreed, any 560/570 or 6970 will handle it max with decent rates. Personally I'd go for the 6950 and flash it

For most games you don't need more than a single 6950. However for Crysis (and the upcoming Crysis 2) there is NO single 40nm fab GPU able to handle it, not even GTX 580.

A single GTX 580? Not a chance, unless you mean 30-45 fps is playable. If you run it at 30-45 fps, and I run it at 60 fps, there is little chance for you to win if you duel me in first-person-shooting games.

15 fps really makes that much of a difference.?

Hmm should I be thinking of spending more on the card?

Performance is a bit better than that, more like 40-55fps here at 1920*1200, only drops lower when loading sections of the maps.

Then that's strange. My 580 SLI could only do like 70 fps, while a single 580 could only do 40 fps. Maybe your 580 is heavily OC'ed?

Not true. Some games are different than others, but in most MP games FPS can be the difference between winning and dead last, up to around 125fps anyway.
