Killzone 3 Quick Look

Am I a bad person for laughing at all those poor pirates downloading nearly 50Gbs of game solely for a 4.5hr SP.

No, just stupid for letting it even matter to you what other people do.

Enjoyed KZ2 online but I don't think I'm going to bother picking up 3, at least not straight away. Might chuck it on my rental list though.

Am I a bad person for laughing at all those poor pirates downloading nearly 50Gbs of game solely for a 4.5hr SP. It makes my heart warm thinking about it :). Im undecided about my pre-order currently, Ive loved the Beta but unless I get into the MP in a big way (unlikely knowing me as Im never a person to play something 24/7 to stay ahead of the unlock curve) I just cant see the value...

How long was KZ2 on normal?

ps3ud0

lol oh well, their problem not yours but I can see the funny side..

KZ2 for me has been a VERY long game.. After getting half way through each time i've had to restart due to my saves being lost - ggrrr..!!! lol

Still had my moneys worth out of that title... If I'd guess maybe less then 10 hours on a normal playthrough..?? Great game though...

50GB isn't a problem these days, is it

The standard cable internet is 120mbps where I live and every test I do is spot on so it could take less than an hour to download 50GB :o

will be picking this up on day of release cannot wait its the best title i have seen yet in 3d :)
not to sure about the move add on the orange gun will have to see how much i play it on move before i shell out 40 quid on a toy gun .
i will be playing sp on the hardest setting but im not sure if elite will be open straight away so it might need to be played veteran 1st like killzone 2 .

like other people have said i had some problems also with my game save corrupting and it being a protected game save i have lost count how many times it has corrupted on elite setting .

The mp is what im looking foward to most its just ashame squad spawn has not been added :(
The exo suits and jet packs are pretty well balanced and looking forward to some kamikazi c4 bomb & grenade dropping :D

Here's something you may not have noticed: the vast majority of users on OcUK live in - wait for it - the UK!

Shocking, but there you go :)

A mammoth patch will be released not after the game is released:
•Support for color-blind players
•Implement unranked custom games for players to create private or clan matches
•Enhanced custom games functionality that will allow players to:
•Control over games modes and settings
•Secure games, allowing you to invite the players you want to play with
•The ability to prevent abilities and weapons from being used
•Toggling on and off functionality, such as ribbons, skills, explosives, etc.
•Selecting which careers you want available to players
•Allow friendly fire to be turned on or off
•Faction switching enabled or disabled
•The Clan Officer role will be added to clans
•Separate turn speeds for hip-fire and ADS
•Overly enthusiastic death screams will be toned down
•Increased the amount of kills required to win a Guerrilla Warfare match
•Increased Accuracy ribbon will have its effectiveness lowered
•Likewise, the Bullet Damage ribbon will have its effectiveness lowered as well
•Matches will end if the other team forfeits (i.e. too few, or no players on the enemy team)
•Matchmaking enhancements that will close and merge games based on player count, which will keep games more full
•Balance factions out by moving players to the other team at the end of the match if one team is lopsided
•The ability to turn off HUD markers for point pop-ups and objectives
•A menu option to allow squad-only chat
•The addition of a Mute All button
•Scoreboard flickering will be fixed
•Clans will no longer get matched against other clans that have many more players than they do

Hmmmm, separate turn speeds for hip firing and ADS is interesting.

There is no way the average player is going to be completing KZ3 in 4.5 hours, from what I'm hearing,

"I think the campaign length, whilst perhaps a tad short, is still more than most of the fps I've played in recent times. Longer than Blops, MoH, about the same as Reach and Killzone 2 tbh. What people don't realise is that the only figure recorded is the very fastest time you've completed the said level. It doesn't include deaths or retries. The game re-sets the counter every time you do. So you're only getting the optimum time.

I.e

You've reached checkpoint B in 10mins
You spend 8mins trying to get to checkpoint C but die before you do.
Game restarts you at checkpoint B and is still logged at only 10 mins, despite the fact that you've actually spent 18mins playing the level.

For most people I'd imagine the game will take 7-10 hours to complete, depending on how much they admire the set pieces and how often they die. Took me about 9+ hours, but I like to take everything in."

Also make note of the bold.

In the new games(tm) who's opinion I generally respect they say the single player campaign is 4 and a half hours long. I'm playing through Vanquish at the moment though and that's only about 5 hours long and yet that's universally praised and quite rightly so, so I'm not sure this is a huge issue.

What worried me more is they also say it "takes a step backwards in every direction" and "from a single player point of view at least Killzone 3 is the biggest disappointment of the year so far"...

I tried Killzone 2 twice but just didn't get on with it but was still reasonably excited at 3 as I do like a good shooter. We need a few guys on here to get it and pass judgement I think.

Well unless the person @ game(tm) used an external stop watch I doubt he/she completed it in 4.5 hours as if you read my quote above the game "doesn't include deaths or retries." when logging the completion times of each chapter which will make a fair difference to the actual time it takes to finish.

As far as I was aware no one ever takes into consideration deaths and retries.

Most people will play through on Normal and only die a few times and that's how all reviews made.

People can play games on extra hard and be crap and turn them into 15 hour experiences but this doesn't alter the length of the content.

As I said Vanquish is also a short game but playing through on hard it's certainly taking me longer but I'm never going to argue it's a 10+ hour long game. It also certainly doesn't detract from the experience.

I see they was playing it on normal difficulty , no way in hell they would finish the game on the hardest level in 5 hours , i might not play the online that much but am still defo going to buy the game even if the campaign is on the short side and will have at least 2 playthrough's of the campaign when i get it .

You can't gauge a length of playable content by using only the fasted times possible to complete it.

Lots of review places will use the in game timer to gauge how long it took for them to complete the game, otherwise they will just time themselves or give an estimate, most games that log your time will take retries and deaths into consideration which in turn effects the completion time stamp, on Uncharted 2 for example the time stamp on my save says 11 hours 53 mins which is including my deaths and retries, KZ3 doesn't do it this way, the reviewer of KZ3 @ games(tm) added the completion times that were logged on each section of the chapters in game to work out how long he had spent on the SP campaign in total, now unless he didn't die once his completion time is inaccurate, even dying only a few times could easily bump the completion time up to 5+ hours.

You say that,

"As far as I was aware no one ever takes into consideration deaths and retries."

But how is that the case?, do they sit there with a stop watch and stop and start it in between deaths?

I'll still be picking this up. I tend to take my time, and not rush through games now. Plus, there's the co op, which I shall be trying and the multiplayer as well.

2 things in that patch notes, squad only chat and the spereate turn speeds, which is handy as in the beta i have mine turened down to 10% and 20% for better aiming, but means slow to turn around.

I find it more funny that people such as myself have to pay for that length of gameplay!

Oh... wait... that ain't funny. :(

There are no deaths and retries in this game, since Rico has one of those magic healing gadgets to prevent you from dying. Does anyone know if that's removed for the hardest difficulty?
