I'm looking for a SKT1156 CPU to tide me over until I can afford a Sandybridge system. I've had a look around and have seen a second hand i7 860 for the same price that second hand i5 750's seem to go for.

Which one would be best to get? What's the i7 860 going to have that the i5 doesn't?

I'll be using the pc for video editing (albeit light video editing) and graphic design.

I dont know how well the 860 overclocks, and I dont know if you are planning to overclock, but if you are maybe get the i5 as 3.8-4Ghz seems to be the normal overclock and I dont think thats half bad. The hyperthreading would help with the editing, but how much I honestly do not know. I know this really doesnt help you that much but just my two cents until someone else can give you a better answer. :P

Just found this thread that says the i7 860 turbo's to 3.5GHz anyway and some have overclocked to 4.2 - 4.7GHz. Seems like an impressive chip.

If you can get an i7 860 for £100 or less then I say go for it, it's a great chip still, will be more than enough for gaming and any other uses you might have for it.

This particular one is £114 with postage. I've seen the i5 750 go for £90 on the MM so probably not a bad price. Just need to sell some more stuff on the MM to pay for it lol :)

Yeah still a decent price at £114 considering the i5 2500k is still £174 and the 1156 motherboards can be picked up quite cheaply now.

Depends what you do, most of the time the i5 750 would be the best choice and hyper threading isnt all that useful, even for gaming.
