Can you ever go back from RWD?

No, the top end 3 Series is the M3. The top end non-M3 3 Series is the 335i. This would also make your Ford Fiesta look like a slow hatchback, as it does 0-100 in an even more bonkers 12-13 seconds.

it is a slow hatch, but it cost 9k and keeps "up" fine with 325s and 328s down your average B road. It would beat me, but it wouldn't disappear, unless they spun into a bush?

In which case a Fiesta ST would not even see where it went. :)

How much did a 2007 BMW 330 cost vs a Fiesta ST then? Mine was 9k, 11k once i added Mountune 185.

12 minutes. And you added in the bit about not including top end 3-series or M3. This was AFTER Fox mentioned the 330i. Hmmm...

i must remember to take a dump faster then. Internet.... Serious business! :)

the only edit was the added top end 3series/M3 +mistypes/spelling

Anyway, thread derailed, Sorry. :(

Keep moving the goalposts.

First a 3 Series in general wasnt much faster than you have now. Then you realised you were wrong, so said oh ok except the top model. Then you realised you were still wrong, and now your point appears to be 'An old 328i isnt much quicker'.

Comparing a 330 to a modified ST is flawed.

Comparing a Mapped 335d to a Monotune ST on the other hand........

:D

As you have now thrown money into the argument, those old 325i and 328i's you mention cost 3-5k, I am sure if you added 2k in suspension and modding they too would then beat your Fiesta ST. :)

For 9k I could buy the old M3, of which you aint got a chance in hope against. 11k gets me an E46 M3, which is an 11-12s 0-100mph car and is far more talented in the corners too.

Don't change the goal post as a 2.0 4 cylinder 150BHP hot hatch FWD aint rivalling some of Germany's finest. :)

errm i said it wouldnt be that much faster. You infact quoted this post before i "moved the goal posts". But who in there right mind compare a 270bhp BMW to a 185bhp fiesta? The reason i "moved the goal posts" is i knew someone would compare it to the dam M3 or something, when all along i ment the 325/328.

and again, would it really be that much faster down a B road? Not a drag strip?

true :( lol

I know which one I'd rather drive home in too!

I went from RWD to FWD pretty easily. Mainly because I'm old now and I was just using the Supra to get from A to B driving like a girl. :)

a 325i has 192bhp doesnt it? Not too bad to compare against?

So to paraphrase your original point it would be "if you compare a Fiesta ST to (what is pretty much) the very definition of a mid-range 3 series then it's not much slower"? If that's the case then maybe the difference isn't huge but given you've excluded quite a significant portion of the range just to prove a point it becomes a shade meaningless doesn't it?

I started out with a mk1 Escort (1.3L) and then got a mk2 1600 sport and a Capri 3.0S. I made the silly mistake of then getting a Fiesta XR2.

I've had purely RWD since (apart from a couple of old Minis)

I am not blinded by what wheels are driven, there are more merits to a car than the driven wheels. I have owned RWD and FWD cars, and never had an issue leaving one for the other. I am considering both FWD and RWD cars for my next car, too.

That said, I kind of prefer FWD for the road, it is easier and more forgiving to push.

no, fox said it was stupid to compare a FiestaST to a 3series, yet it will do fine vs a 318, 320, 325 and maybe even a 328. Hardly excluding a large part of the range. In fact thats only excluding 2 cars. (excluding devil juice cars).

That Clio 200 vs the FocusRS video showed that BHP isn't everything.

Anyway i derailed thread which i'm disappointed about doing, i almost deserve a holiday for being so stupid! :o

Agree 100%. Only thing is there's not many FWD V8s, and V8s are better then FWD or RWD.

I don't think I could ever go back to FWD purely because of it's characteristics. Much much easier to drive near the limit but still not as rewarding or fun.

No matter how you dress it, FWD is a compromise and exists to manufacturer cars cheaper or to overcome a design constraint.

I like to be able to launch off the line and have the back end stick like crap to a blanket and not have the steering go light as the front scrambles for grip.

Plus - back end out = cool points, front end out = lewz points :D
