At stockhausen, will you be boycotting the census ?

As far as I am aware, census information is not used for surveillance and have to ask how could it be ? ID cards are also being scrapped by the Coalition aren't they ?

Listen to all the whingers. The census gives us a picture of the makeup of our country. There’s nothing sinister about it and it is the only way to find out.

I simply can't imagine . . . I'm sure that Lockheed Martin, the US Government and perhaps even the UK Government will find a way

Why should anyone be forced to fill in a Government questionnaire and threatened with prosecution and a 1000 fine??

Do you honestly believe that is fair and that this is not something we should independently decide to participate in?

Because a Census is a very useful tool for future planning for EVERYONES benefit. It isnt done for a laugh.

It is entirely fair, because if there was no fine then people like yourself who lack the capacity to see what a census is useful for would simply not bother, undermining the value of the data.

because they need to know for planning and management.

Knowing the make up of the population etc is useful, and it's a **** load easier to ask you the info than try and piece it all together.

If there's no fine most people wont bother, like those "can you fill out this customer satisfaction form for us" things.

If it already exists why collect it again.

As an aside I feel that the government should be given only the minimum data it needs, and 32pages is way more than it needs.

I'd hardly say I lack the capacity to understand the advantages of a national census. However it seems that certain people overlook and do not question the disadvantages of such a Census. You shouldn't keep forcing your opinions onto others, which invariably you seem to do no matter what the subject matter.

My point is that I'd be happy to fill out the census if there were no repercussions. However I resent the fact that this is forced upon every household in the UK, ergo my personal choice not to personally conform. I'm sure there are plenty of others with the same view as mine that simply won't bother or won't correctly fill out the forms.

I choose to make my own decisions in life, not be told what to do by others.

like say how many of X ethnic group who live in the uk but where born elsewhere speak English?

If a Government, foreign or domestic, wanted to place you under surveillance then answering or refusing to answer a census form is hardly going to make much difference to them.

Stockhausen - If you honestly believe that someone is out to get you or that you are so self-important that you believe you could be under surveillance then you really need to see a shrink about your paranoia, narcissism or both TBQFH.

I will be filling it in. PITA if it is indeed 38 pages given that the 2001 form for the individual was only 4 pages according to that official site mind

I have no problems filling out the census. The information it provides to genealogists when it's released to the public in 100 years is priceless. Many people who are researching their family history really look forward to the time the census from 100 years ago is released.
