IC - lemme know if you get your Conti tubes ok. I ordered 3 practically at the same time as you. They have now went "unavailable" on the site so I am hoping their stock system is a live one as I got the email confirmation ok....

Help!

I'm looking for a new mountain bike but haven't been keeping an eye on what's what for about 15 years now. Back then I had a GT but I don't know what's half decent these days.

My budget is up to £500, I've been looking on Evans Cycles, are these any good?

Cheers

How about something a little different and great spec for the money

Canyon Yellow Stone 3.0

Right - order time

Big assignment handed in today. Time to treat myself!!!

99% certain it's the 456 Carbon Trail:D

On-One Carbon 456 Trail

1% - says this Canyon Nerve XC 6.0:p:p

Question is - I have the option for the plain black 456 as per picture in 1st link above, with some coloured decals that they send you OR the new red/black frame as per below

Red/Black Carbon 456 frame

I do like the red and black one but the plain black is quiet "stealth mode"

Last question is - Should I be slightly concerned about a carbon frame in terms of rigidity/breaking etc - i'm mainly doing some XC/7 stanes stuff - nothing mental!!! Or has carbon frames moved on a fair bit and take as much abuse as a steel/alu/composite frame?

I'd personally go for the plain one out of the two.

Don't worry about carbon, get it helitaped up in the necessary places, decent chainstay protector and you'll be fine.

Will do, expecting them in todays post.

My tubes turned up today while I was out on the bike. Glad to say that my rear tube is holding pressure so the patch worked but I picked up a thorn in my front tyre half way through my ride today  Left it in so that the tube kept pressure until I got home. Will repair it tomorrow probably as I am absolutely shattered after what I thought was going to be a nice relaxing ride....

So I had a look on Google Maps and other places for somewhere to take the bike. Somewhere off-road for a bit of fun and I managed to find somewhere about 5 miles from me - Some hill land with an old right of way which went on for about 5 miles before it reached road again. Basically it was 5 miles of this -

and this

Crisscrossed with some large streams like this -

IMAG0033%20%28Large%29.jpg

It was practically ALL uphill on the off-road section (circa 500ft climb) with the downhill being on the road section after it so it was tough going.... All in all, it was just short of 25 mile round trip (24.8) which is by far the most I have done in one go....

And yes, I attempted to cross that stream on the bike not quite realising it went upto my ankles even on the bike :o. Cue 2 sodden feet for the rest of the day. I didn't bother attempting the others :o

And to top it off, it started lashing it down with rain on part of the ride... What part? Well obviously it had to be while I was on the hard off-road part on top of a 900ft hill... Stopped raining in time for me to hit tarmac again  I swear someone up there don't like me :(

Edit: May I add, even when it started lashing down with rain I still enjoyed it :D

ahh nothing quite like driving rain in the face, mud under the tyres and a tough hill but not tried it with soaking wet feet too! well done :D heh

Rain whilst you're out is the best kind, its easy to wimp out and not go out if its already raining, but if its starts when you're already out its actually good fun!

CRC showed an out of stock part as being in stock on my last order. As a result they gave me a £5 voucher. Not bad considering the part was only £8. :D

Top marks to CRC.
