If you're thinking of joking/putting down JEDI in the 2011 census, don't. Here's why...

If your religion is of low enough importance to you to that you are willing to put in a religion from 3 good sci-fi films from years ago, and 3 more recent rubbish ones, please consider ticking "No Religion" instead. Every tick towards any religion, no matter if it is real or a bit of a joke (or both for that matter), gets counted towards the figures of religious people in the UK.

The data gathered is used to inform government policy, and was used by the last government to justify funding of religious community bodies over secular ones.

If you don't have an active faith, please make sure the government knows

Yep, this is a 'link and run', but do believe it is important and I hope people don't arse around.

Fair enough comment that; it's easy enough to put it down as a joke, not seeing what the eventual consequences could be.

It probably won’t make any difference, if it does at all. Anyway, who follows advice from a completely random web page that looks like it’s been put together by a 14 year old. It probably explains why there isn't anything else there.

Well its not the people putting Jedi down who are at fault there rather the government mis-using statistics.

Anyway I'm undecided as to whether to put down Jedi or Spaghetti Monsterism.

I'll be putting down "none" or whatever the option is because I'm not a complete idiot who thinks "sticking it to the man" by trying to skew results is fun.

Sorry but if you decide to lie or write something like "Jedi" you are a moron.

Perhpas you worry too much about things - its just a census, if you view religion as being trivial then put anything you want in the box - Jedi is fine tbh...

As for being 'idiots' I'd wager that the average 'Jedi' or follower of 'Spagetti Monsterism' is likely to have a higher IQ than the average Christian or Muslim.

It won't make any difference overall, the majority of people in the UK identify with some kind of religion, so if you think that not stating Jedi/other will increase the overall percentage in favour of atheism/secularism then your going to be disappointed.

What about those of us who are actually Jedi, should we just accept that our fictional religion is less important than all the other fictional religions and stop practising it?
