HardOCP 6990 sneak peak

While we cannot reveal the specifications or framerate numbers to you today, we will say this, we are happy with what AMD has provided. The specifications are everything HardOCP had hoped for. We think gamers will be pleased with the hardware. This video card is better out-of-the-gate than the Radeon HD 5970 ever was.

Sounds to me that the stock HD6990 is panning a max clocked HD5970 with ease.

HeHe even though that is a nice little article and myself like most others cant wait for the new dual GPU cards from both companies to arrive, it didn't really tell us anything at all, now i know that they are bound by NDA's but it really just seems to be an article to grab hits rather than anything really useful. i suppose it just adds to the excitement for most of us though anyway.

Well we get big performance hints. The HD6990 running stock is faster than a max clocked HD5970. A clocked HD5970 can be over %20 faster than a stock card.

Dragon Age 2 in DX11 is hitting playable frame rates (30FPS~ ?) at 5760x1200 4X AA-2X AF.

yep, if you read the results closely, you could work out with using a pair of 6970's and clocking them to get roughly the same framerates/results they did to get an idea of its performance numbers.

errr....okay maybe I read a different article than you because the one linked to in the opening post only mentions the 5970 twice on the first page.

The Radeon HD 6990 video card will be the successor to the Radeon HD 5970.

certainly doesn't say anything about being faster than, and defiantly doesn't mention the 5970 in relation to clock speeds.

as for reading the results closely.

which results would they be.

maybe your referring to the comments like
We found this very playable. We can't tell you the framerates, but we can tell you they would make you smile.

This was playable! Indeed

What we saw proved that both GPUs on the Radeon HD 6990 were accelerating this game "properly."

or maybe if i was looking for the negative things

In some parts, it was actually playable, but in others, such as battle scenes it wasn't.

However, in this game, we actually found Anisotropic filtering to affect performance to a large degree.

bottom line that article even though its a nice read it doesn't tell us anything.
