Chris Moyles 37hour show!

Im not a fan, but why write the guys off for doing thise to raise money for what is a really good charity, comic releif at least gets some quality sketches etc and funny shows.

And the thought of staying up stright like that is not something I would lok forward too, they HAVE to talk and joke between each link.

Simon Mayo often talks about how difficult it was and never wants to do it again.

Nor do I relish the thought of walk 20km in desert heat for 100km over 5 days....why do poeple have to be so negative, an event has to happen to get poeple to ring up and donate!

I like the way 80% of the celebs that take part in Comic Relief are mainly there because they have an album/show/book to promote or their agents have told them it will be good exposure.

It's a win/win situation then.

More money to charity and more potential money for that person. Who cares when its all for a good cause?

It seems a bit out of the spirit of it all, but I'm not sure what the bad part of this is, the only downside I can see is when it comes to bands etc they usually play the new single they're promoting rather than the good one more people will enjoy.

Remind me again who the broadcaster is and how they're funded? I think it's bizarre that more people don't comment on the stupefying inanity of what celebrities do to raise money.
As for what I've bolded? Really? I've actually heard quite a few people complain about others getting free skydives by doing them for "charity"
There is minimal BBC expenditure and that which there is can as good as come out of the advertising budget, the amount of shows they promote/have special editions of. I couldn't care less what they actually do, it's simply raising money, there is no level of expense to it as that's covered already, and so what if it's inane? It's comic relief... doing something funny for money.

The things from the past few years of celebs doing stuff are largely organised by the celebs (or at worst their agents), it's not part of comic relief, it is something they are doing to raise money for comic relief.

Then it isn't the longest ever radio show, is it? Their slot is still the morning slot, only difference is they don't bugger off after it.

Love the complete lack of any knowledge, they have to talk and engage in EVERY LINK between songs, this is the world record rule.

Love the fact that you have enough time on your hands to look up such wonderfully irrelevant information. If they're going through with it, then captain obvious has likely done the required homework and doing whatever they're doing successfully will result in a new world record - I didn't question this, I questioned their very loose definition of hosting a radio show.

If I showed up as a guest on my friend's campus radio show and talked incessantly in every link, would this mean I hosted the show?

They said it, quite deliberatly on the show when they announced, and I dont have selective hearing.

As far as I can tell they are sittin gin with them, and the Djs in teh usual slot will be their guests for their usual slot, its the only way it could work.

WHy so negative, itll raise a ton of cash..I can only assume youre so upset as you yourself are going to do doing something better to raise just as much cash?

Seems a completely and utterly pathetic thing to be so negative about.

Mainly because Comic Relief gets on my **** as it is (whole other discussion) and again because Moyles is employed by a state run and funded broadcaster for something in the region of £600k a year.

So we're supposed to give the fat ******* a metaphorical blowy for being so damn generous with his time? Do me a favour pal. For £600k a year I could do more for charity than spend 37 hours making Radio 1 even more unbearable than usual.

Is it not? What is your comparable experience?

Walking a similar distance (one day) a couple of years ago in Australia, walking in southern Egypt last year. Appropriate clothing, enough water, there is no need for 20km a day to be anything like a struggle.

So much negativity in this thread for people raising money for charity! Why does the money have to be raised fighting alligators and crocodiles?

For starters it would be more entertaining, require more effort and actually be worthy of donation.

Look at the people who promote Comic Relief so heavily, guys like Terry Wogan who was, up until very recently, pulling £2.5m a year from the state to host his radio show.

I'm all for a bit of charity, but when it's promoted to us by ****ers with more money than sense it is nothing but insulting. Maybe if they were to match our donations I'd be more willing to actually give a toss.
