Women and Insurance Premiums

why dont they just raise everybodies premiums to a blanket £2000 for all

I assume now they wont be able to discrimiate against young drivers either?

if you cannot use statistical based risk then how can say a 17 year old isnt going to be any worse than 35 year old woman?

it ageist!

like I said hopefully it will be based on years behind the wheel claim free so bigger no claims discounts, but I hold no hope.

will they be able to take post code into account now as well?

if they are taking all the risk based statistics away presumably if you live in inner london or rural kent should make no difference either?

An amazingly stupid decission, more to do with the implications for pensions than drivers. I can see no reason now why there shouldn't be a case against rating based on age so we'll all end up paying more as the risk is spread out.

Who needs common sense when you have human rights?

*ahem* This was a decision by the European Court of Justice, not the European Court of Human Right.

Following a recent claim that it is impossible for new drivers to have no claims discounts the EU has ruled them discriminatory and banned insurance companies from using them. Further to this it has also been found that offering cheaper insurance rates to those living in lower risk areas is also discriminatory to those who live in higher risk areas resulting in the recommendation by the EU to ban such practices as well. Full story p2-3.

Maybe a little ott but you get the idea :p

take it to its logical conclusion, it doesnt matter what car you have as that dicriminates as well

actually thinking of the consequences makes my head hurt

will you able to discriminate for life insurance based on age or gender...statistically women live longer than men, but you wont be able to use this now so life insurance for women will go up as well

You really are an arrogant little tyke aren't you Foxy?

What is up with you lately stockhausen, rubbish RSS threads, aggression towards other posters and now you're posting completely made up stories and getting angry about it too. Maybe a time to take a break from the internet for a while and sort out whatever is causing you issues in the real world?

Great decision. You don't decide what gender you get born as hence it shouldn't be used to descriminate pricing.

One for common sense.

You don't decide ANYTHING when you get born so can we therefore wipe all statistical data off the map as discriminatory?

I passed last June and had to pay £2200 for my insurance but a girl at same age would be about £1700, also why should insurance drop when I turn 25? Not like I am goona wake up on my 25th birthday and be a different person

Two minds about this, I agree that it should be based on statistical risk but then again none of my guy mates have crashed/written a car off and a few of my girl mates have. Plus a women crashed into me and my father, so in that case I question why my premium is higher than women's.

However, obviously this isn't the case for the entire country but still from my PoV this is good as I pay less and they pay more...

Although I'm not madly happy about the EU sticking it's nose into the UK's workings either...

*shrug*

You say "also" like you're moving onto making a second point.

The reduced pricing fades in 18-25, it's gradual nowadays.

To be honest it makes a lot of sense. I've just hit 24, I wouldn't dream of doing the things I used to do on the road at 17.

I don't see the issue with females getting cheaper insurance, as a whole they're statistically less likely to crash.

Sorry that makes no sense at all. New drivers are a higher risk.this has nothing to do with what you are born as. Neither does post code. But prior crashes might do.

You don't get to decide your age either  I simply don't understand how people are so utterly oblivious to the concept of insurance?
