****The Nintendo 3DS Thread****

That must've been some meh!

Care to elaborate a little more skippi about it? :)

The 3D effect, which other than the slight increase in hardware perfomance is the main reason for an upgrade, is dodgy at best. I found that the majority of the time, you could see ghosting or both layers, regardless of how much repositioning of my head, the console, or the 3D Slider I did.

I thought the effect was quite poor in action tbh which left me disappointed as otherwise, I was going to preorder there and then.

The Circle Pad isn't too bad. Better than the PSP analogue stick.

This is going to be the first hardware from Nintendo that I'll be giving a miss, as I can't see 3D. After discussing this with a mate who works in a game shop, he told me you could turn the 3D effects off, but doesn't that defeat the object of having a 3D system?

Will have to wait and see what the PSP2 has to offer.

Hmm which game was it mind me asking?

Also did you see the Zelda clip above? I honestly thought it was great looking! (albeit without the 3D).

My worst fears are being realised as I originally said. The 3D aspect is more a gimmick/fad, which most will probably turn off once the initial "ooh" factor wears off.

Was just the AR cards, which albeit not a full game, are supposed to demonstrate the 3D effect. They were actually fairly fun tbh. :p

I also share the sentiment that the 3DS seems a little flimsy in design and very obtuse. Not eluoqently designed like the DSi/Lite.
But I have yet to see it in the flesh, so will still reserve judgement.

Maybe: I'm sure I remember reading that the 3D effect uses up some processing power. Part of me hopes that for some traditional games they forgo the use of 3D and make a better looking/performing game. If Nintendo let them!

It's only the blue one at hmv... it looks horrible in person
I wouldn't agree with that, saw it in person in the Bradford Game store just this weekend and it doesn't look bad. Only thing I'd like is if it was all blue rather than making the front (casing) of the top screen being black. Black models are a bit more consistent because of that but I'm sure it'll contrast the 2 screens a little.

Had a hands on with it and the 3D effect wasn't popping out and more of a depth thing, at least with the game I played anyway which is the preloaded game where you shoot flying heads.

Actually I keep forgetting to mention, the thing I noticed most about the 3DS I didn't like was loading in between levels. Being used to carts meant everything was instantaneous (or felt like it). Now loading can take a few seconds between levels etc.

Just been and tried one in HMV. I'm struggling to keep the faith, to be honest.'as I said before, it looks absurd. It's overengineered and then some, with buttons and switches galore and it doesn't look or feel too great or solid. Obviously the only games you can try are the face raiders and the AR cards, but those are gimmicks so aren't really too great a benchmark. The 3D thing works fine for me, but I'd really want to see it in a game to be sure it's worthwhile. Add to that the fact that the only decent looking launch title is SSFIV and I'm really not sure it's worth paying launch day prices for the privilege of playing one game for 6 months until they get round to releasing some decent stuff.

Most game related stores have been demoing them for weeks. Go have a look for yourself.

I've been to most local places near me and they don't have any display models :\, though I know I'll be pleased with the blue one as I've always bought my handhelds in the worst possible colour and then been pleasantly surprised.

Right for some reason i have some interest in this now:p
I haven been following the 3ds at all. All i know is that is got a 3d feature, two good games coming out soon MGS Snake eater and Zelda. I own a DS which mainly feeds my rpg needs with classic title series Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest amongst others. Anyway my questions:

1.Can i play my DS games on there?

2. Is the 3DS more powerful than the DS so we will be seeing graphically better games?

3. What game should i get with it?

1) Yes, assuming they aren't any of the esoteric ones that use the expansion slot - Warioware or Guitar Hero, for example.

2) Yes.

3) SSFIV is said to be the best bet.

Does anybody have any more information or hands on experience of the alleged ghosting? I remember a similar thing with the PSP 1000 which was fixed with a hardware revision.

I've lost my nerve and cancelled my pre-order. Bit daft as I'd sold my dsl, but I'll grab a DSi to tide me over. There's things I'd sooner spend my money on for the time being. I'll pick it up in 6 months when there's some decent games out and the price drops

I was considering doing the same, I like the look of the white DSi and as I have never owned a DS it might be worth getting one of those and some of the best games and then picking up the 3DS maybe around Christmas time when there are more games and better bundles.

If you tilt it much off centre it ghosts and breaks the illusion. That any good to you?
