Macbook refresh rumours....?

Hey there

The easiest way to do it is consolidate you itunes library on your pc.

Then copy everything from your itunes folder to an external hard drive.

Take all the files and drop them over the itunes icon in your macs dock & it will then put everything in the correct place.

That is assuming your itunes library is in the default folder on your pc, ie my documents/music/itunes.

That way you can have 2 backups of your itunes library one on the pc & one on your mac, the files for playlists etc are all the same hence the reason they can be copied over.

Also if you have any iphone/ipad apps on the pc these will get copied over as well.

Hope this helps

I picked up the high end 13 inch Macbook pro on tuesday night which replaced my 2009 Macbook, nice nippy notebook now.

Also use timemachine to backup your Mac to an external drive, it will back up all your itunes stuff that way.

Cheers

I was going to buy a flash stick to transfer some files (including music) over - but I thought if I could just connect my Mac and PC together using Ethernet that would save me some moola :p

Quickly popped home before I go to my 2PM appointment and am currently typing this on my new MacBook Pro :D

Will take some pictures when I finish work tonight - First impressions are very good! It's very nice typing on this keyboard :)

Put a SSD in?
Not yet. Since I need the space for now I'm going to stick with my hard drive - but I'm going to see if I ever use the Optical Drive for the next month - If I hardly use it, I'll rip it out and throw in an Optibay so I can have a large HD for data, and SSD for OS and other apps :)

If I was to go with the low end 13" MBP would there be a big difference in performance to the high end 13" MBP?

And how do you find using a 13" screen? (For those who have one)

As someone who's had a 13" for close to 4 years, I'd say it's brilliant if you want a portable high-performance laptop without entering netbook/MBA territory. The key for me is using spaces, keeping a clean desktop and dock and using most things maximised.

I'm really interested in getting one just wasn't sure how the 13" screens handled

Very nice! I'm really happy I went with the Anti-Glare screen now - It's very clear and you can still use it in strong sunlight :)

Yeah I went for that option too after a visit to the apple store recently, all I could see were reflections everywhere.

I prefer the glossy displays, personally.

Always used to go for matte, then I saw someone with a glossy screen and the colours just seemed to "pop" more. Fell in love with them tbh :)

Retail environments are not places to judge reflections.

Hey all, I'm looking at getting a Mac within the next few weeks (first time) and was wondering if the MBP 13" i5 was worth it, being a Comp Sci student just finishing my 2nd year.

I'll be mostly using it for coding (would like to attempt iPhone development too), and various other development tools (eg. light photoshop use, maybe 3D depending on which modules i choose 3rd year) and was just wondering how well this model will cope with this type of work, and if there's any benefits over say a similar priced Windows laptop?

I'd love one, mostly being the size and portablity, but need some convincing to part with £850! :D
