Looking to replace the long aerial on my car with a stubby one, any recommendations? Are they all universal, and do the shorter ones have worse reception?

Thats what i was afraid of, i listen to radio quite a bit on the way to work, so was hoping someone had a recommendation that didn't reduce signal quality :(

I use a stubby on the Z4. No change in reception, but I only tend to listen to Radio 1 or 5 Live.

Had it nicked once a few months back, but replaced it like for like (5/6 quid, I think).

Have an S2000 ariel (I think) on my MX5, works just like the RC car controller mast it had before.

Same here but on a MK5 Golf Gti. No difference to reception when compared with the beesting aerial it had before. Just looks so much better!

A smaller aerial will always degrade reception, even if it's amplified. However if you only listen to local/strong stations you aren't likely to hear any difference.

On a 182, people seem to recommend either a Honda CTR aerial (I had one, but thought it looked crap as the base was too wide for the 182 bit), or a Mazda MPS aerial, which is more OEM looking - http://admin.sgpetch.co.uk/admin/system-content/part_images/Mazda/3 MPS/Rod_Aerial_large.jpg

Personally, I like the actualy 182 aerial, it's long, but it's thin so it isn't as obvious as a stubby. Plus the reception is good.

Mine came with one of the CTR aerials... so far so good. Signal has been spot on so far!
