Blade Runner sequel planned

Worst film news this century. It will be ****, if it isn't I'll go to the opening night in a pink mankini and bowler hat, then eat said hat.

While I like the original Blade Runner (what can I say, I'm a cyberpunk nut) I thought Harrison Ford was crap as the lead and it was missing something. Je ne sais quoi. Of course, how good any prequel or sequel is going to be entirely depends on who writes and directs them. Until we know that we can't say how good or bad it's going to be.

I didn't really like the Original for some reason, Ford was rather wooden in it I think

Well, it depends....arguably

Terminator 2 was better than The Terminator.
The Godfather Part 2 was better than The Godfather Part 1.
Toy Story 2 was better than Toy Story.
Aliens was better than Alien.

Statistically though, its not looking good lol

But I do seen a common theme...Get James Cameron to direct the sequel. It worked for Terminator 2 and Aliens! The man knows how to make a sequel.

Personally I prefer Alien to Aliens. And Terminator to Terminator 2. I like my films slow burning and without an over abundance of special effects. Both Aliens and T2 are far better action films than Alien and Terminator. But Alien and Terminator are much better psychological thrillers than their sequels.

I agree. Alien remains a truly great film, a marvel of modern cinema and while Aliens was a really good action film that's all it was.

Meh. They should leave Blade Runner alone, it's one of my favourite films, so don't want to see it's named tarnished.

I feel this is worth quoting just in case...

However I think you're pretty safe - where do they go from the ending of Blade Runner? It managed to finish on a great note and one that didn't brook a new direction, that should have been it.

Depends on which ending you're talking about. Either way the Blade Runner "universe" still exists. And because of the way the original ended they can go whatever way they like with it. They don't have to rely on either Ford or any of the original cast. They could go for another retired burnt out cop hunts down replicants. Or they could have a replicant uprising in one of the far flung parts of the galaxy where they're slaves or fighting.

That said, I don't see why they don't just make a film influenced by the "universe" and with a dark cyberpunk feel. But then I suppose they have to buy the rights to everything they can so they don't get sued to kingdom come for even the slightest copyright infringement. Cheaper to buy the rights than pay the court fees and fines. And it's only rights for sequels. Not a remake.

I'd like to see something with a Bourne Identity type feel but with the gritty cyberpunk feel of Escape from New York/LA, Robocop, Judge Dredd, The Fifth Element, 12 Monkeys, Akira, Ghost In The Shell, Cyber City Odeo 808 yada yada yada.

K W Jeter wrote a sequel to the film, which was fully authorised by the Philip K Dick foundation, and it is excellent.

I'm not saying the film's not going to be an appalling monstrosity, but there's no need to abandon hope this early.

Well I welcome this news I loved the original and look forward to expansion to the bladerunner world, it may not be as good as the original but its more so thumbs up from me :p

Tory Story 2 better than the first one? What have been smoking?

The thing is though, all those movies were made in the 70's/80's/90's. Arguably the best decades for films... now we have Transformers.
