There's been a few threads about jeans and what are suitable/the best over the past couple of weeks.

I hope OcUK don't mind me directing you all as its a clothing website, but republic.co.uk have got a massive sale on and up to 50% off Diesel jeans.

Just picked up a pair myself for £40 down from £99.

£40? Ok, good bargain, I'll give you that, but I've never had a problem with £20 jeans.

Unfortunately for me I'm one of these peoples who's cursed with a degree of vanity. But blessed with the frugality of my father. So I'll go for a good deal when I see one ;)

Eeeeh... biggest size they have is 38 inch. That discounts what - 43% of UK population from their business?

I'd say less than 43% of the population are size 38 inch waist or higher. about 20% maybe.

It's good business sense - if fat and ugly people start wearing their jeans, they would lose fashionable exclusivity.

Hahahaha! Brilliant!

Sorry fatty's, I shouldn't laugh. I was a little podgy once.

Are we a nation of fatty's or a nation of bacon sannie lovers? To be honest though, the current economic climate is not supposed to help either. People have less money so they can't afford to go to the gym, staying in and ordering pizza is cheaper than going out for the evening and the cheap food is often quite unhealthy, i.e. Sausages.

cm1179, go on, you know you need another pair.

I actually spent £65 on there and saved something like £105..

Rubbish. Show me the proof.

SizeUK is an organisation owned by many of the biggest retailers.
You can see who they are at the following link.
http://www.sizemic.eu/products-and-services/size-survey-data.html

The last major survey was published by them in 2004. The average mens size at that point was 37". As obesity is on the increase it is reasonable to assume the average is slightly above that now. You can see the data at the following link.

What misleads folks, possibly yourself included, is that the size demographic and the purchasing demographic are not identical. Younger people, who tend to be slimmer, purchase more items of clothing more regularly. Hence, shelf/rail/hanger stocks will include more of the smaller sizes, giving the false impression that the average size is lower when in reality it is only that the average purchase is lower.

Hope that all makes sense.

Who would actually pay £100 for a pair of jeans anyways...? There is little difference between ones that cost £20 apart from a label.

I've purchased jeans before from topman (not those skinny things) and H&M and nothing has compared to me forking out for Levi's. The only pair of H&M's I've got at the moment are fading kinda funny and I paid £30 for them.

So I'd rather pay £40 for something which are meant to be better quality.

It doesn't help, but I don't think it's an excuse. For all but those with genuine conditions, avoiding getting fat is just a case of consuming less or equal to what you use. If you go for a run every now and then, do some pushups, and don't eat tons of food, you will be fine.

A sausage won't turn you in to Giant Haystacks if you only have one! :p
