Olly and I won't be turning up to the RR day in the trusty old e39 M5 as we did a little bit of shopping yesterday morning...

2008 M5
42,000 miles
Silverstone II exterior, Black Merino interior.

It's fairly well spec'd and has all the options that were on our "essential list" (bluetooth, upgraded audio and USB):

19" M Double-spoke style 167M alloy wheels
Bluetooth phone prep + telematics
BMW Assist
BMW Assist online portal
Extended Voice Control System
Hi-Fi system LOGIC7 Professional
High-beam Assistant
M Multi-functional Seats (Front)
Sun protection glass
TV Function
USB audio interface
DAB Radio

I was pretty much sold as soon as I planted my foot to the floor. The exhaust note is intoxicating, so much better sounding than the e39

Did a deal that I'm happy with and got a better part-ex price for the e39 than I expected. As it's an AUC car it'll be warrantied for a year and I'll keep up the extended warranty on it after that. The e39 is getting to the age where things are likely to go wrong and so swapping for a newer car with warranty coverage is rather appealing!

Pick up the E60 on Friday 18th so have 12 days to wish away between now and then!!

Excuse the photos, taken on a phone... will of course take some better ones once I have it

The 6 just didn't make as much sense... like for like they're quite a bit more expensive. I'd have got an older higher mileage car for the same money. At least I still got the M6 wheels ;)

To be honest, I'm not really keen on doing passenger rides this time round... I'll have had it less than 24 hours and would rather get the hang of things myself first :D

Enjoy :)

It's quite a bit quicker than the E39, especially at the top end of the rev counter. I thoroughly enjoyed mine, more so than the E39 despite many people at the time saying they wished they hadn't gone from the E39 to the E60.

The e39 is a great car but I've had it three years now (and a 530i for a year before that) - I'm ready for a change. I got on with the gearbox on the test drive and really love the look of the e60 (it's a bit more marmite than the classic look of the e39)... can't wait to pick it up!

Get out!
