iOS 4.3 now live

Trying to install this borked my iphone, Gives me a 1611 error and tells me I have to do a Restore

However when I try to do that it wont work, keeps saying there has been an error

Solution for Error 1611 :

1- Change the USB port the phone is plugged in to. Do not plug the phone back in yet.

2- Reboot the computer then plug the phone in and immediately restart the phone in DFU WHILE CONNECTED to the computer.

3- Hit restore if your using the legit itunes 4.3 firmware, hit shift + restore for custom firmware.

Surely there isn't a technical reason why that would be limited to iPhone 4s? Seems rather dubious market segmentation to me :confused:

3GS doesn't support Hotspot. You're referring to tethering.

yeah, i have experienced this - posted a thread on it with no answers tho. I think its purely down to Apple generating a desire for the new iphone tbh. They did it with the 3G -> 3GS the 3G was working fine on one iOS, then they bought a new one out and it became dog slow. Wouldnt be surprised if they're doing similar, because i see no reason to upgrade currently. But i have since installing latest iOS been seeing slower browsing, unknown pauses, and just a wee bit more sluggishness - with no change in featureset etc...
 
Has anyone downloaded this to there iPad. I have jailbroken my iPad and was wondering is there any benifits for me to upgrade ?

I agree that the behaviour is normally referred to as 'tethering', but on the phone itself it is called 'Personal Hotspot' in the configuration app. I assume there must be a technical limitation with the wireless NIC in the 3GS which prevents the wireless hotspot feature from being available.

My I4 has this annoying bug where in and form of message, text, email, whatsapp the cursor keeps dropping to the line below even when there is only one word typed on that line??

Might upgrade and see if this fixes the issue as it's driving me round the bend :(

Doubt it.

MiFI works when you jailbreak it.
 
I usually do a complete restore, but I just couldn't be bothered and updated my iPhone 4 and iPad. Both seem to be running the same.

Won't pay for the personal hotspot and would rather the switch is left to mute/unmute.
 
Just plugged in my Iphone 4 to put some songs on it and ended up getting this update :) Personal hotspot is a nice feature should have been on iphones years ago I remember have an app on my nokia n95 for it
 
im not bothered about my JB at the mo as i was only using SBsettings for 3 toggles so thought i'd give this a bash.
anyone find this sluggish tho ?
 
Yea I admit there is a slight difference but I was hoping for the 4 finger gestures etc can't see why they took it back out again
 
Pleased that 3 don't charge extra for the use of internet tethering :).

By far the best 3g coverage over the widespread areas of the UK I've been to than when i was on 02, as well.

Hotspot feature should be useful :)
