March in London on the 26th?

Well if people had bothered reading http://marchforthealternative.org.uk/why-were-marching/ they'd have read the alternatives for reducing the deficit put forward. The government would dearly love you all to believe that theirs is the only way, and unsurprisingly the little-Thatchers on this forum have fallen for it. The reality is quite different, which is why we'll see tax breaks in the budget - if things were as bad as government dogma suggests, we wouldn't be able to afford those now would we?

I may be blind, but I can't see anywhere on that link where they propose alternatives, other than a 'Robin Hood' tax.

I'd like to not be shot at or shot with a water cannon for just marching peacefully :p

Consider it a free bath, under my new regime its only the trouble makers that need further therapy after their bath :)

What's your excuse for wasting time and resources?

How can you afford to do this?

Who pays for you to march?

Who pays for the police and the clean-up afterwards?

Nope - I'm a tax payer - I'm quite in favour of cuts to government spending.

Agree, need to cut spending, and folks marching to say they want the govt to keep spending money we don't have wins little sympathy with me.
Let the folks marching contribute to a fund, a fund of free money for the govt to spend, and then let those who don't want to give to the fund agree with govt cuts.

Wonder if you properly soak people with a good constant stream of water can you tazer more than one with an individual shot?.... hmmm.

Electrified water cannon, helps keep people warm during their soaking by causing vigourous muscle movements.

.

I did read it, and their main heading is incorrect.
The first thing in bold letters is simply wrong.
The govt isn't trying to clear the deficit in 4 years, they are merely half it.

The alternative would seem to work less well. Spending money we still don't have to recovery from not having any money. Sounds like betting twice as much to try to win your losses back. Not a good plan.

Water cannon and Tazers, thats the way forward.

The TUC’s March for the Alternative has two key aims.

First we want to give a national voice to all those affected by the cuts.
This will be a huge event that in its breadth and support shows just how much opposition there is to the government’s programme. It will bring together public service workers and those who depend on good public services. Those involved in national campaigns, and those defending what is special in their own community.

Second we want to show that people reject the argument that there is no alternative.
Of course the recession did damage to our economy. But these deep rapid cuts are not the best way to solve our problems, and may well make them worse.

How very vague and top line, written by someone who really lives in lala land and doesn't understand the complexity of the cuts.

When the TUC list the exact alternatives, adjusted rates/spend, the money savings to be had and timings, then I'll be willing to listen.

They also state the VAT raise as hitting the poorest and middle earners the hardest, but actually, VAT is the fairest way.

People can quite easily swallow the VAT rise by changing their purchase choices. So what would they rather have? VAT rise or not have the money in the first place with a rise in income tax?

This is very similar to how shadow MP's work, criticise the ideas of the opposing party, but fail to detail their methods and why theirs are better. It's easy to stand there and criticise when there's no actual responsibility sat on your shoulders.

Wow, hoping that people exercising their right to protest get a beating from the police - what a nice bunch of people we have on this forum. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a lot of off duty policemen protesting - they are looking down the barrel of massive pay cuts after all as the police are an "enemy of enterprise" according to Cameron.

Just because people have rights, doesn't mean they have to exercise them and as clearly demonstrated in this thread, the people going don't actually understand the financial situation at all. So remind me, why are they protesting?

I'm going as part of the private sector contingent - I've even been asked to speak in Hyde park.

I just read this part of your post and decided everything else you had to say wasn't worth responding to.

Of course it isn't dear, not in your little world anyway :)

  • Higher NET monthly income, with a choice on how to spend it
  • Lower NET monthly income, with a choice on how to spend it

I know which one I would rather have and I struggle to believe people can't change their purchase choices to offset a 2.5% increase.

Im a public worker and if i have to pay more towards my pension then so be it. My wife pays for her pension with her employer matching her contributions. Why is it so wrong that i have to pay towards my pension?
Why don't the protestors turn around ask the labour and union leaders how we got to this mess.

You can't blame people for being worried about losing their jobs and trying to do something about it.

The problem is there is no easy way, there has to be cuts and a lowering of living standards.

The required cuts will either be done by us now or ordered by someone else in a few years.

A bit difficult when the person next to you thinks differently, now let the police try and discern the two when things get a bit wild. I think it's a responsibility to not mingle with those who are there just to be violent, but hey you're "peaceful".

Still isn't helping though.

Also, you planning on taking part in Stay for a Day? The more the merrier.

So you are going to occupy Hyde Park to:

“A space to create a micro society based on mutual aid, respect and combined power to hold a siege of London which will have those in power running for the panic room”.

LOL From the Voice of Anti-Capitalism in Guildford.

Panic room, no one in London is going to be running for that in fact they are just going to have a good old laugh at the revolutionary fairies from cloud cuckoo land.
