Well if people had bothered reading
http://marchforthealternative.org.uk/why-were-marching/ they'd have read the alternatives for reducing the deficit put forward. The government would dearly love you all to believe that theirs is the only way, and unsurprisingly the little-Thatchers on this forum have fallen for it. The reality is quite different, which is why we'll see tax breaks in the budget - if things were as bad as government dogma suggests, we wouldn't be able to afford those now would we?
The TUC’s March for the Alternative has two key aims.
First we want to give a national voice to all those affected by the cuts.
This will be a huge event that in its breadth and support shows just how much opposition there is to the government’s programme. It will bring together public service workers and those who depend on good public services. Those involved in national campaigns, and those defending what is special in their own community.
Second we want to show that people reject the argument that there is no alternative.
Of course the recession did damage to our economy. But these deep rapid cuts are not the best way to solve our problems, and may well make them worse.
How very vague and top line, written by someone who really lives in lala land and doesn't understand the complexity of the cuts.
When the TUC list the exact alternatives, adjusted rates/spend, the money savings to be had and timings, then I'll be willing to listen.
They also state the VAT raise as hitting the poorest and middle earners the hardest, but actually, VAT is the fairest way.
People can quite easily swallow the VAT rise by changing their purchase choices. So what would they rather have? VAT rise or not have the money in the first place with a rise in income tax?
This is very similar to how shadow MP's work, criticise the ideas of the opposing party, but fail to detail their methods and why theirs are better. It's easy to stand there and criticise when there's no actual responsibility sat on your shoulders.
Wow, hoping that people exercising their right to protest get a beating from the police - what a nice bunch of people we have on this forum. It wouldn't surprise me if there were a lot of off duty policemen protesting - they are looking down the barrel of massive pay cuts after all as the police are an "enemy of enterprise" according to Cameron.
Just because people have rights, doesn't mean they have to exercise them and as clearly demonstrated in this thread, the people going don't actually understand the financial situation at all. So remind me, why are they protesting?
