Earthquake in Japan....9.0...ouch!

Apparently after a 'quake of this magnitude one normally expects at least one aftershock in the series to be about 1 magnitude less on the Richter Scale. So we should see or should have seen one of about 8 which we have not yet. One scientist I heard on Radio 4 or 5 said that until that occurs we are unlikely to be reaching the end of the series......

0210: North-eastern coast on the alert for a 3-metre tsunami - Japan's Jiji news agency.
0212: Tsunami feared to reach north-eastern coast "in minutes" - Kyodo.
0214: Evacuation order issued in the city of Hachinohe in the north-east - Kyodo

I'd put £100 on the premise that this is vacuous, sensationalist, scaremongering crap.

:( They really can't catch a break at the moment, even worse is, there will be crews all over the place around the coast searching for dead people who are all now in extreme danger.

Anyone that escaped the first one had somewhat empty roads, anyone around the coast now has debrie everywhere, roads are screwed, its "only" 3 metre's though, estimated, which would get a lot less far but, hope to god its being over estimated and has little power behind it.

Teco is saying there were two explosions at Reactor 3 already, the smoke looks somewhat different aswell, has anyone seen the explosion footage as I've just seen some white smoke rising in what I assume is afterwards, something still leaking as after the first ones roof blew off and the cloud dissipated there wasn't anything else seen after that was there?

That's the worry if they get the big aftershock they're all expecting. Another monster Tsunami could devastate their rescue services and leave them helpless.

The smoke thats seemingly continuing to rise out of Reactor 3 is, worrying. Closer pics suggest, the framework is FAR more damaged than in the first reactor explosion isn't it? So bigger explosion.

Doesn't help that footage always have live all over it, because the "news" is live, but the footage is often just looped old stuff, ruddy irritating.

I can understand people panicking if they see a larger than normal wave in the current situation but panic isn't going to help anyone.

But the main guys seem pretty certain theirs no Tsunami and it was about the same distance off shore as the previous quake, and they seem to think if there was one it would simply have already hit by now.

Some 2,000 bodies were found today on two shores in Miyagi Prefecture, 1,000 on the Ojika Peninsula and 1,000 at Minamisanriku - Japanese news agency Kyodo.

I think they've found very very few survivors at these towns that were almost completely wiped out, and you'd I assume normally see more survivors at the start of a search rather than a couple days later. I think the offical dead number was at just north of 1500, I'm not sure if that included any of that 2000 they've just announced. :(
