Death Star or Mount Doom, it depends on the day.
So basically I have an original antec 900 case, Asus P5e mobo, x2 5850's and a tagan 800bz.

For those who know the layout of the Antec, the PSU sits at the bottom directly above my second PCI slot. Therefore, my reluctance of slotting in my 2nd gpu is evident? What my question is whether short term this will have any major implications untill I get a new case?

No, theyll just run hot, therefore the fans will have to spin more and as such system will be louder than maybe it would otherwise, but other than that it shouldnt be an issue

Don't see why, the other thread(if thats what sparked it) the bottom pci-e slot is literally the bottom slot on the mobo so a dual slot card "overhangs" the motherboard, when thats tight to the PSU it won't even fit. This was caused by his mobo having a bit northbridge heatsink and the top pci-e being a slot lower than usual. Your mobo has two well spaced slots, the card is longer than really any psu around the fan won't be obstructed by the PSU, the psu won't prevent it fitting and due to the triple spacing of the pci-e slots the top card won't be impeded by the bottom card.

Yes a bigger case with a bit more easy quiet airflow will still help a bit, but not a huge deal.

Ah, forgot(and I have one) that the Antec doesn't have the vents so the PSU is cooled from outside, so the card will block a lot of the PSU's airflow, in that case honestly, don't do it.

Acutally, you said the problem is evident, it is but what you think the problem is isn't clear. Are you worried the psu or the gpu will overheat.

Whack the card in and take a picture, I'd say if the card covers most of the psu fan, I wouldn't even turn it on, you can't easily measure PSU temps but you're asking for temp/heat problems or at the least a ridiculously loud psu fan running at full speed to keep the temps stable.

The gpu's should be fine, but the PSU, I can't visualise easily exactly how much that graphics card's heatsink shroud will block airflow.

Got the Antec 902 (used to have the 900 before - still very similar) - I'm in the same pickle but thankfully the second XFX 5850BE I got had a different style cooler so it lets the fan 'breath' even though its right ontop of my PSU.

Running fine no problems so far!

Here are some pics;

As you can see, the fan is pretty much sitting on top of the PSU.

BTW, I know my PC needs a good clean.

How is that possible, they are literally breathing into each other. Long term that can only be bad.

Most standard ATX PSU's have intake fans. I'm not sure if this one's an exception?

I'd only be worried about the PSU because if it is intake, it will be taking in hot air straight from the gpu. You should be able to tell in any case if the PSU fan ramps up louder than it usually does.

I'm unfamilier with this case, but is there anyway to turn the PSU upside down so it's intaking air from outside the case? Most cases have a grill at the bottom.

Thanks mate :). I'm in the process of dismantling it and moving components to a new modded WC case. I'll be doing a worklog here later.

The PSU will get hot during this process. I had a mate in the exact same situation with sli 260's and the computer would shut off when it ran for extended periods. He had to move to a new case to use sli without this issue occurring.
